The more than 100 individually handmade tiles depict scenes from traditional Taiwanese and Chinese opera, puppet theater and aboriginal rituals in I-Lan County, Taiwan.  I-Lan County is best known as the birthplace of traditional Taiwanese opera.  The county still has a thriving tradition of theater and performing arts.  The new 600-seat Perfoming Arts Center was opened in April 1998.  The tiles, 15cm x 15cm each, were permanently installed in the arcade surrounding the theater.
