HISTORY
The
valleys of Swan, which lies partly in, Chakwal is supposed to be one of the
oldest areas inhabited by man. Artifacts belonging to the some-age have been
found near the village of Dhoke Pathan at River Suan. This valley was inhabited
by the Dravidians around 1000 BC, followed in much later years by the Arrays who
settled around Katas. The famous Pando brothers, heroes of Maha Bahrat, are
reported to have spent 12 years if their exile at Katas and built the temple of
Sat Ghara there. In 530 BC Korosh the great of Iran, annexed this area.
With a holy spring, According to Hindu tradition this spring and the surrounding lake were formed by the tears, which fell from the eyes of Shiv Devta on the death of his wife. Every year, Hindu pilgrims specially come for a bath in this sacred lake. On top of the nearby hill of Koterra are the remains of the ancient Hindu temple of Sat Ghara where Pando brothers spent some of their exile. Hindu also regards Katas as the abode of Bhagwan Shanker, the king of serpents.
