| The above picture kind of says it all. The Flaming Lips don't have boundaries. They make music in the oddest way, and it oddly turns out magnificent. While their popularity came out of a teeny tiny "college rock resurgance" in the early 90's, the Flaming Lips have been around for much longer, and they're still putting out music. That makes them one of the most durable bands on this list. They're also one of the most creative, blending odd harmonies with disonant noise and quirky sound effects. The Flaming Lips are my favorite kind of band; the first listen makes you ask "huh?" The next listen makes you think... "I think I get it," and by the fifth or sixth listen to the whole album, it's permenantly ingrained into your conscious memory. |
