When I was 13 years old and just bought a CD player for the first time, Focused: Bow was the first album I ever picked up.  If I were writing a hip-hop review, I would probably say that it was dope.  If I were writing a metal review, I would probably say that it could shred.  If I were writing for a jazz magazine, I'd tell you they were the swingin'est cats around.  The truth, though, is that Focused was a hardcore band.  The truth, though, is what hardcore is all about.  They poured out their musical hearts for every second of that recording, and it left an indelible mark on my mind.  It told me that music was not what I expected it to be, and could shatter my perception of reality if I let it.  Focused will always be my favorite hardcore band, and their heart and fervor will be admired for years.
