Noble and gentry family of Kurbatovs. Genealogy of Ivan I. Kurbatov. Family of Kurbatovs had been exiled by tsar Ivan the Terrible; one line into Siberia and the other line into the region of Tambov. Tambov' s branch has declassed there and its members became free dwellers in the Tambov's area. The family had made a living hunting and thus arranging recreation for aristocracy. In the early XIX century the family history has taken a new turn. Once upon a day, Isay Kurbatov was attacked by a bear and perished defending one aristocrat. Such a feat of Isay Kurbatov was assessed by tsar, who allowed Isay's children to study at a military school and then receive noble status (Letters Patent on Nobility from monarch). Isay's son, Iliya I. Kurbatov was born in the early XIX -th century in the Region of Tambov. Died in December, 1857 in Tambov. He was directed to military school to be a field engineer, sapper. Iliya I. and Glafira Yakovlevna (surname is unknown) had had 6 children: Anna, Olga, Vasiliy, Aleksey, Sergey and Ivan. Ivan I. Kurbatov (1846, Kaunas, Latvia - 1923, Baranovka, Russia) Doctor of Medicine. In 1870 he has graduated from Moscow University (nowadays it's Moscow State University). 1870-1876: doctor in district of Sapozhok, Ryazan Region. He had been working in various hospitals of Moscow. Owner of Baranovka estate, that was bought in 1897. It was a particle of Protasyev Ugol. Ivan I. Kurbatov was married to Antonina Nikolayevna Vikhlayev (1852-1927), who was Obstetrics Classes graduate. They had 10 children, among which Antonina I. Kurbatov (1875-1963), wife of Georgy A. Behr (1870-1943); and son Nikolay (1885-1957), married to Yuliya A. Skvortsov (1884-1957) .
