The Hon. Sherryl Garbutt, Minister for Conservation and Environment,
made the presentation and our Vice President Liz Devlin read the
"Citation":
"Millie Howell has been an enthusiastic and tireless member
of the Friends of the Prom for approximately twenty years, having
joined shortly after the group was formed in 1979. She was one of
the group's Joint Co-ordinators from 1990 and continued as President
when the group became incorporated. She writes the regular FOTP
newsletter and has played a leading role in the group's successful
applications for a succession of Government grants, including those
for the nursery, picnic shelters, walking tracks and viewing platforms.
Millie has attended nearly every working weekend in the park, as
well as the fortnightly Friends' Nursery work at Tidal River. She
has been an enthusiastic leader of the Nursery Program and has recorded
and photographed nearly all the orchids in the park, making a very
important addition to the park's flora database.
In her time as co-ordinator and President, Millie has played a
significant role in the development of the FOTP into an extremely
successful Friends group with a high membership and an excellent
mix of young and old members. She has been the mainstay of the group,
cheerfully accepting responsibility, working co-operatively with
the park rangers and extending a friendly welcome to new friends.
She continues to be an inspiration to all".
