Ms. Irene E. Portillo, Executive Director, is an influential member of the Hispanic community and has participated in many committees. She has worked for many organizations to further the advancement of the Hispanic community. A founding member of Comision Feminil Mexicana Nacional, Ms. Portillo has recived numerous awards for her work in the community. Her achievements have gained her acclaim from Presidential appointments and many local legislators such as Congresswoman Hilda Solis, Supervisor Gloria Molina, Mayor of Los Angeles Richard Riordan, State Senator Gloria Romero and Congresswoman Grace Napolitano, just to name a few. Ms. Portillo is a member of the Selective Service Board and is working hard to ensure that women and at-risk youth receive every opportunity to experience a better quality of life.
Ms. Armida Tellez Bolton, Member, is a family law attorniey with her own private practice. She has also been a Professor of English and journalism with the Los Angeles Community Colleges. Ms. Bolton obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Whittier School of Law, a Master of Arts Degree in American Studies, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism, both from the University of Southern California. Ms. Bolton has participated in local government and was elected to city council for the unincorporated part of East Los Angeles. Her past political activities include the Democratic State Central Committee and the Los Angeles County Democratic Central Commitee. A native of East Los Angeles, Ms. Bolton has participated in various political campaigns for most of her adult life.
Ms. Sylvia Sanchez takes pride in her mentoring abilities to disadvantaged and troubled youth. She is a participant in the Los Angeles County Foster Parent Program and has learned the trials and tribulations that yong people face especially those whose former lives are less than ideal. She demonstrates her desire to assist members of the community by giving a permanent home to a yong child as the child's adoptive mother is undertaking the arduous task of going through the lengthy and expensive adoption procedures. As a business professional, she is the manger of Sam Mandler Jewelry Story and never misses the opportunity to foster her ideas on those who will listen. |
