I am currently an instructor in history in New Orleans, Louisiana. I have a Bachelor of General Studies from the University of New Orleans and a Master of Arts in History from the same school. I also have 57 hours of graduate coursework in history beyond my Master's degree. I teach World History and have been at Xavier since 1997, but have been on "Katrina Leave" since 8/29/05. While on Katrina leave, I've been processing archival collections at the Newcomb College Center for Research on Women.
My principal historical interest is Women's History. I do not limit myself to U.S. women, or even women of the Western world. My research and studies take me back to the ancient world, and cover areas such as the Islamic world, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. I am presently working on a project about the development of gender hierarchy.
I have taught a mini-course on Witches and Magic--Historically for the University of New Orleans Metropolitan College and have also done community lecture series on this topic as well as Women in American History, Women and Work in History, and Women in Early Religious History. My most recent "general public" history sharing was a four-week reading and discussion series at the Slidell Library this on the topic of Women in Other Cultures. In March 2005 I did a presentation for the N.O. Public Library titled "Reconstructing a Woman's Life: Frances Joseph Gaudet--Independent Black Reformer" as part of their Women's History Month programs.
