I am an American.
I was born in Georgia in 1966. I always wanted to be a soldier and joined the Army in 1990 at the age of 24.
I served in the USArmy Europe until 1998 when I was discharged honorably, my eight year obligation complete. While I was in, I served for 6 months as part of UPROFOR in the Former Yugoslavian Republic of
Macedonia and 6 months as part of IFOR and SFOR in Bosnia Herzegovina.
I’ve traveled around quite a bit, at last count I think I’ve been to 30 or so countries. I’ve lived in 9 different countries including France (Paris & Montpellier) and South Africa (Jo’burg). My
passport is literallly almost full and it still has several years of validity left.
It’s safe to say, I like to travel. It’s a real eye opener and usually always instructive. I mean, I’ve seen post Apartheid South Africa up close and feel that I can speak with a little bit more
authority on the subject than some liberal journalist who may have spent a 48 hour stint in a posh hotel in Cape Town to do an interview with Mandela. I’ve lived in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland and I
can talk to you at length about the tensions there- all from first hand experience.
I suppose that old adage about being away from home makes you appreciate it more is very true. You don’t really know what a blessing being an American is until you go and see how it is somewhere else.
I speak fluent German. My interests include scuba diving, hiking (once an infantryman always...) and reading voraciously.
I currently reside in Scotland with my wife.
