The Fantastic Worlds of ERB
Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) was one of the most prolific science-fiction and fantasy writers of the early 20th century. His most famous creation, Tarzan, first appeared in 1912. But ERB's works go well beyond that of a certain ape-man's adventures. From the red sands of Mars to the center of the earth to two-fisted westerns, ERB's tales covered a diverse range.

My first encounter with ERB was a comic book adaptation of Tarzan of the Apes when I was six, and later in high school I read the first two Tarzan novels as well as the first John Carter of Mars story. I read the third Tarzan novel when in college, but was rather disappointed in it.

Copyrights of works published before 1923 have expired, so most of ERB's earlier stories have fallen into the public domain. Thanks to Project Gutenberg, I have converted the text files for two ERB novels to PDF for your enjoyment.

Reviews

Like everybody else, I have opinions on what I've read or seen. Here are a few humble (and not-so- humble) opinions of books and movies/DVDs that I have recently seen:

Books

  • Excelsior! The Amazing Life of Stan Lee
  • Nickel & Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America

Movies/DVDs

  • Long Way Round
  • Airwolf (Season 1)
  • The Core
  • Babylon 5 (Season 4): No Surrender, No Retreat
