Probablemente
ya sepas cuál es el tema principal de la serie, se trata de “Princes of the
Universe”, pertenece al álbum “A kind of Magic” de 1986, propiedad y
derechos reservados de Queen Productions ltd. Este álbum contiene varios temas
de la película Highlander: “A kind of magic”, “Princes of the
Universe”, “Who wants to live forever” y “Hammer to fall”.

“Princes of the Universe” fue escrita originalmente
para la película Highlander dirigida por Russel Mulcahy y protagonizada
por Christopher Lambert. El single, lanzado en 1986, estuvo acompañado
por un video en el cual Lambert se enzarza en una pelea a espada limpia
con Freddie Mercury, que solo estaba armado con el pedestal de su micrófono.

“Queen Greatest Hits II” y “Queen + Greatest Hits III”, (este último
incluye una excepcional versión de “The Great Pretender” y un tributo a Lady Dy y
Freddie Mercury: “No one but you” (post-Freddie Mercury) Álbumes que fueron
licenciados a EMI records.

Otra canción que hizo muy popular
la serie, incluso la contenían algunos de los comerciales de AXNLA para
Highlander the Series, es “Who Wants to Live Forever”, por supuesto también
de Queen, yo la recuerdo mucho en “The Hunters”, cuando Duncan regresa a la
iglesia de Darius a buscar pistas sobre su muerte, durante unas escenas
retrospectivas de su relación con Darius, aunque también aparece en el
episodio “An eye for an eye”.
Sin
embargo esta hermosa balada la identifico más con Connor, siento
que contiene su enorme desesperación.
Who
Wants to Live Forever fue escrita por Brian May, integrante de Queen, y según
la leyenda, en el asiento trasero de un auto después de que la banda vio el
primer corte de la película Highlander, posteriormente llegó a ser uno de los
temas centrales de la película.

última canción es “Bonny Portmore”, aparece en algunos capítulos de la
serie, pero el más memorable es “Homeland”, esta canción fue recientemente
grabada por
dos cantantes de música celta una es Loreena McKennit en su disco "The
Visit" y la segunda es Laura Creamer.
Hace
500 años, en el castillo Portmore en Irlanda, existió un gran roble que fue
destruido por la industria Inglesa para construir los navíos de guerra que
consolidarían su poder marítimo. Este roble inspiró "Bonny
Portmore".
