| Colin Firth has a confession to make: "I didn't have the slightest clue on earth [who] Darcy was. I hadn't read any Jane Austen at all, chiefly because when her novels were offered as potential coursework at school, I thought they'd be rather, well, sissy. And I certainly never dreamed of lifting an Austen off the library shelves or at a bookstall." Firth would later make women swoon from his great perfomance as Mr. Darcy in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. He admits to his anxiety over not being able to play the part, " .. So I heard these things and started to think, 'Oh God, Olivier was fantastic and no one else could ever play the part." but he proved himself wrong there! |
