The dull roar of the crowd is silenced instantly by the football announcer's voice on the loudspeaker: "...Ladies and Gentlemen, please rise for the presentation of the colors by the Westwood AFJROTC Color Guard..."  At the command of the American Flag Bearer, the detail marches to the 50 yard line, and turns as one to face the home side.  Football players, cheerleaders, and fans are completely silent in the moments before the detail commander speaks; the feeling that something great is about to happen is almost tangible in the evening air.  The command "Present Colors" is called in sharp authority by the detail commander.  As one, the detail gives homage to the American Flag.  All take a moment before the game to honor the flags and the deep history and purpose it represents.  A deep, rich sound swells from the band as they play the national anthem.  As the last chords of the Star Spangled Banner fade, the team orders the colors and then marches from the field with the unequaled feeling that they have done something important, and done it flawlessly.
