| New York City Mission Trip 2005 |
| On March 12-17, 2005 my fiance and I went to New York City with a group of college students from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. We went with Mission NYC and the Campus Christian Center at Angelo State University. We saw God move in many ways! Actually, to describe everything in detail would be a tremendous undertaking, so Ill give the basic gist. We got there on Saturday but we were all tired from the exhausting drive to Dallas and then the plane ride. So we just went to bed on Saturday. Sunday morning we got up and went to Times Square Church. It was really neat! It was huge and there were a lot of people standing because there wasnt enough room to sit. The people who were there must have really had a desire to be there in the first place. Next, we visited firehouses. We talked, prayed with and gave tracts to the firefighters. Please pray for these guys to see the need for Jesus. Our guide Kumar told us that because they are like the heros they dont see the need for salvation. Then we went to Ground Zero. I got to talk with a lady from Pennsylvania. Matthew got to talk to a lady from Canada. Most of our real ministry in NYC was just talking to strangers and showing the love of Christ. People are not used to any attention from strangers and were flattered. Monday we went to the Covenant House. This is a homeless shelter for teenagers. We helped them sort out their donations. Later that day we worked with Raven Ministries which is a street evangelism ministry in Manhattan. We meet at the Raven headquarters and were briefed then the group walked down to a bus depot. It was a rather long walk, but it was really neat because on the way there we sang hymns. Once at the final location we served food and talked with homeless people, pimps, prostitutes, and gang bangers. It took courage to step out and talk to this crowd. Im glad the group stepped out in faith because we saw many people come to know Christ. It was a true blessing! Tuesday we helped a meals on wheels program and we delivered food to shut-ins. Then we spent time at an adult daycare, the Florence Nightingale Adult day care. There I met a man who moved to America from China ten years ago to escape the religious persecution of the communist government. He said that he goes into the church where he attends everyday because he can. I cant imagine what a freedom this man now has. Later that evening a few of us from the group went to Jim Cymbalas Brooklyn Tabernacle....It was unbelievable. The three of us that went were blessed to see God move in a personal way why we where there. To describe all that happened would take a newsletter itself. Wednesday was the tourist day for us and we when to see the sites. And Thursday we headed home back to San Angelo, Texas. |
