Dotore Quisling: A Study in Evil — Part I

To,
Xacuti Vindalho, Senhor Agnelo Gomes, http://www.freegoa.com, The GoanCauses List
Cc. Dr. Jose Colaco of the Goan Forum, Dr. Shushrut Martins.

I found the below exchange on the http://www.freegoa.com website. I have taken the liberty of reproducing it here in order to analyze the exchange, as it is of interests to us, Goan patriots.

The exchange is of interest to us because of its educational value. The criminals who perpetrated 19th December 1961 on us expose themselves in all their foulness!

The immediate provocation to this exchange was a letter-to-the-editor of the anti-nationalist "Gomantak Times" by Dr. Jose Francisco Martins. The well-known Goan patriot, Agnelo Gomes reacted to it in his predictable acerbic style, and to that Dr. Martins, pere et fils, reply.

Dr. Shushrut Martins reproaches Agnelo and the Goan Forum, where this exchange originally occurred, for having failed to bring their replies to the attention of his father, Dr. Jose Martins and of the "Gomantak Times". However, there is no legal requirement to do so, unless the proper address was known, and Dr. Shushrut conveniently ignores the fact that the editor of the "Gomantak Times" is not under any obligation to publish such a letter, or any letter whatsoever, publishing letters-to-the-editor being the prerogative of the editor. Or is this to be understood as betraying a nexus between the Dr. Martins and the editors of the "Gomantak Times"?

The son tells us that his father fought for Goa's freedom from the Portuguese. Now, as a Goan patriot, I cannot have any real objection to that. However, that is not the end of the tale. We are all very much aware, or to put it in more precise language, acutely aware, that we have not gained independence from Portugal, but that we have been conned and that the Indian Union basely and knavishly invaded us and occupies us.

In the light of that, we must go to the next pressing question: What were these men, who claim to be our elders in the Goan Liberation Struggle, fighting against the then imperial masters, Portugal, doing when this monstrousity was enacted? Did they fight against it, just as much as they fought against Portugal? And the loud and resounding answer is: NO!

NO? But a mere 'No' is not the complete answer. And that is that these 'honourable gentlemen' having fought so bravely and courageously for Goa's liberation from the stultifying and iron grip of a Portuguese empire that had long gone past its expiry date, not only did not resist this monstrous evil but actually were part of it, assented to it, cooperated with it, justified it and justify it!

This is, nothing less and nothing more than, treason. High, capital Treason!

If all this were not bad enough, we must then pass on to a study of Dr. Jose Martins (and also his son's) arrogant, insolent, impertinent, etc. manner. It does not suffice to have been a Judas, but now he must haggle superciliously over the thirty pieces of silver!

Dr. Martins says, "What the freedom fighters were getting and still get is a pittance and the beggars on the street would have thrown it back on the face of the giver with disdain."

To the just, virtue is its own reward. And it is not as if as a doctor, a self-confessed socially prominent person, ("Besides being a medical doctor, an educationist and a former Principal of St. Philomena High School, Salvador do Mundo"), and moreover, a bhatcar (landowner), he would be poor or financially strapped. However, what we have here is Dr. Martin grumbling that his 'Freedom Fighter's' pension is insufficient, and that proposals to augment it are being rejected! Dr. Martin does not have the grace of a honest, just and moral man to take what he is given and be grateful for it; but he talks with an insufferable haughtiness and with an overweening pride.

Dr. Martin betrays, instead, all the 'grace' of a beggar, and of an impertinent, boorish, in-your-face, beggar!

Dr. Shushrut says that his parent, Dr. Jose Martins, is adored as one of the few Goans who felt that their identity is separate, most prestigious and unique from that of the then rulers of Goa." 'Adored' indeed! And Dotores Quislings, pere et fils, have no moral qualms that the far more alien Indian culture and uncivilized, barbarous, pagan customs are being imposed, thanks to him and his fellow-quislings, upon us Goans! Is there no end to hypocrisy?

Dr. Quisling's arrogance is so much that he insolently demands that Agnelo Gomes give up Goan nationalism and become a traitor like him, failing which, "you are likely to lend in the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour."

Dr. Quiling superciliously - and hypocritically - remark, "Unfortunately there are no memorials built in the name of so many Goans who were shameless protagonists of Portuguese who died a natural death because no body bothered to kill them."

That is rubbing in the salt of insult into our wounds. Yes, at this moment, the only memorials are those built by the Occupation to honour the traitors and collaborators. Today there are none for the Goans who died fighting against the Indian aggessors, nor for the victims of Indian terrorism, as amply recorded by Senhor Francisco Monteiro. And Patriotic memorials have been destroyed with pointedly deliberate intention!

[See Message in GoanCauses list: "In 1960, a modern 'rotunda' was inaugurated to pay homage to a son of Goa - Manuel Antonio de Sousa hero of Massangano. This monument was destroyed by the pseudo-liberators of Goa on the eve of the invasion and occupation of Goa by the Indian troops." - Francisco Monteiro, Lisboa, Portugal]

But let not these hyenas laugh too much. The day will come when we will bury their bones and memorials in our jakes, as the Holy King Josiah buried Samaria's idols on Mount Sichem... In that day we will fittingly defecate and urinate upon these... giving them the proper honour that they deserve!

Dr. Quisling 'innocently' tells us that "Panditji was forced to take military action when all the perusasive means had failed; certainly it was not to rape Goa!" He blithely ignores the facts, sticking out like sore thumbs, that the Indian Union had no cause and no occasion to intervene or interfere in Goa's internal affairs; that the Goan people never did ask for Nehru's invasion; that Nehru blithely ignored all his insincere promises that Goans themselves will be the sole arbiters of their destiny, and blithely pretended to annex Goa, resting on nothing more than an unjust conquest by force of arms! If this is not RAPE, what is? Do you, Dotore Quisling, know the meaning of HYPOCRISY? You practice it with consummate, born-to-it skill! [See Mahatma Gandhi & Pandit Nehru's Experiments in Hypocrisy!]

Dr. Quisling betrays that he was no sincere revolutionary, but merely a traitor for the sake of money and position, when he speaks as an elitist: The vote by illiterates and ignorants is a bane that perpetrates and perpetuates the so-called democracy. May God save us from these elements who are the outcome of our own aspirations for which we sacrificed... This is a man who, by his own words, did not fight for his cause, whatever it may have been, for altruistic and noble reasons, but for base reasons, such as to gain power and prestige! This is a man who is haughty and proud, and who insists that his name be quoted, bowed down to and venerated always, for the 'favour' that he did by being part of the treacherous movement that betrayed Goa to the Indian Union!

Dr. Quisling tells us: Therefore, none of them raised their voices against the injustice that was being done to the elite of the society in Goa and the whole of India — the freedom fighters. . And so, now we know for what Dr. Quisling fought the Portuguese - not that the Goans might be free - perish the thought! But, rather, that the 'elite' - the class of social vermin, misfits and malcontents, could impose themselves on us instead of the Portuguese, rob us and lord over us! 'Elite' indeed!

This is a man who, like Shylock, the Merchant of Venice, counts his pennies and pounds and shekels, indeed with the most care and snarls savagely at any that seem to draw too threateningly near his illgotten wealth!

May he and his illgotten shekels, these Ganthi Dotore Quislings, their blood-money, be cursed, they and their accursed spawn, for all generations, and may they take their polluting carcasses out of our beloved motherland into their foul India. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

A diversion. I found this interesting new-report in the anti-nationalist and collaborationist 'Goacom': "Goa Police arrested 82-year-old freedom fighter Dr Jose Francisco Martins, from Salvador do Mundo, on 18 May 2001 along with his son Dr Sushrut, daughter-in-law Beena and Bijoy Zakarias, for attempting to forcibly evict tenant Ms Shantu Budge, for having erected an unauthorised structure in the Martins' property. That Dr Martins was allowed to go home after Chief Minister Parrikar intervened in the matter, doesn't absolve anyone involved in treating the former so shabbily."

Cute, what? Greedy, grasping beggar, or what? And apparently enough, Goacom supports this leperous 'Elitism', huh?

Prax Maskaren, Goan Patriot and Rakhno (Defender).
N.B.:The noble and illustrious Dom Afonso de Albuquerque was the third Governor of the Portuguese Empire in the East, but the first Portuguese Governor of Goa for he was the actual liberator of Goa, in 1510. He advocated the policy of intermarriage of the Portuguese and natives and of peaceful and respectful coexistence, and so is morally fit to be called the Father of the Goan Nation!

I think it is unfair to directly criticise or levy accusations on people who are not the members of the list as the person being accused may not have the information or means to reply. You have reacted to the letter to the editor written by Dr. Martins to Gomantak Times, your reaction should have reflected in Gomantak Times and a copy could have been posted to the netters.

Secondly Dr. Martins is a gentleman of 80 years of age but still active in the social issues. Besides being a medical doctor, an educationist and a former Principal of St. Philomena High School, Salvador do Mundo is a veteran freedom fighter who fought for Goa's freedom and underwent continuous imprisonment for five years in the Aguada jail for his ideological demanding the freedom of speech and freedom to rule his motherland by asking the Portuguese to vacate in 1954, is adored as one of the few Goans who felt that their identity is separate, most prestigious and unique from that of the then rulers of Goa. He did not yield to the slavery concept imposed by the Portuguese and objected to the suppression of emotions of the natives of the land by the intruders and extortionists the Portuguese. He believed that it must be objected to, he objected and was inprisoned.

You are trying to give false informations to the netters that no freedom fighters laid down their lives for the freedom of Goa, most of the netters who are also Goans should know that many Goan freedom fighrters have laid down their lives for the freedom of Goa and for them memorials have been erected from Pednem to Canacona. A few to name are the Martyrs memorial at Azad maidan built in the memory of 170 Goans who laid down their lives to Portuguese bullets and atrocities, for saying and doing what was right to do by a son for his motherland. Patra Devi martyrs' memorial, at Asnora; at Ecosim in Bardez, Salvador do Mundo; in Cuncolim; in Canacona etc.

Unfortunately there are no memorials built in the name of so many Goans who were shameless protagonists of Portuguese who died a natural death because no body bothered to kill them.

One must, I think, should not criticize any freedom fighters of any country and particularly the ones who carry on their work non-violently to fight for freedom of speech and freedom to rule his motherland which boosts the moral of his fellow natives and enhances their mental and spritual growth which would have remained suppressed for centuries to come.

I am Dr. Sushrut A. Martins son of Dr. Jose Francisco Martins, former student leader; former President of the Konkanni Bhasha Mandal, a literary orginasation of Konkanni; founder of Goemchae Rakhandar (Protectors) and a writer in Konkanni, Marathi, Hindi and English. I have called upon my father to write personally the reply because the people assessing the net should not be misguided and look upon their co-Goans as cowards. (My intro is to introduce myself to the netters as I am writing for this list for the first time and not to boast of my abilities or achievements).

Reply from Dr. Martins

I read your comment on my letter in the Gomantak Times. I am sorry that your ambition is to live in your motherland but through no fault of ours you are in America and not in your motherland, Portugal. Goa was a bit of that "motherland of yours".

At the age of 11 years you did not even pass your Primeiro Grau, so how could you know the history of your motherland, Portugal? You may learn it now.

The first Governer General was Dom Francisco de Almeida, the second was Dom Jose de Castro and the third was Afonso de Albuqurque, not the first as you had the tenoritiy to state and he was sacked. In his own wards " In bad books with the King for the love of the people and in bad books with the people for the love of the King".

Nowadays it is difficult to learn and worse still it is to unlearn particularly the history of Goa with its inquisition and other barbarities for which sins Pope John Paul II asked for forgiveness a few days ago.

The rest of your outbursts are childish and are befitting immature 11 year old. However I am requesting you to read the history of Goa and Portugal which will enlighten you. In case you want any help I am prepared to help you. But, in the meanwhile, I should advise you to consult a medical doctor like me to calm down your excited mind otherwise, you are likely to lend in the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour.

All the Portuguese colonies became independent after Goa's liberation but there are still people who think and dance that the Portuguese shackles were their horses (pixak ghallo khouim khoddo ani to nocho munnon to aplo ghoddo). The Portuguese used to call these people "Desvairados", meaning mad.

Yours truly,

Dr. Jose Francisco Martins

Dr. Martins whom you're telling those outrageous lies of offering to sacrifice freedom fighters lives for the freedom of Goa. None of you ever were killed by Portuguese soldires, when you guys came from Bombay to blow up Goan bridges and hoist Indian flag on our sacred soil. I remember in 1957 when I was 11 years old boy growing in Comba, Margao. The only person got shot because of your faults at Rio de Sal bridge, was a semi confused man from Mungul while he was trying to cross the bridge night time. Then a Portuguese soldier 18 years old whom I knew very well, on sentry duty guarding the bridge told me that he warned him to go away by firing gun shots in the air, he wouldn't listen, and the soldier didn't know he was a local mad man, he had to shoot him. Next morning he and other Portuguese soldiers cried, and consoled the family, and I was there as a eye witness.

You guys never gave us freedom, or you're all con artists and traitors, our motherland Goa is weeping till to-day for your mischieves. Hope you guys get rewarded when final judgement passed on you go to hell.

Some Goans (?) say that Goa was not liberated but conquered. Some others say that Goa was raped by 60,000 Indian soldiers. And still others say that Goa had no history but that it started with the conquest of Goa by Afonso de Albuquerque in 1510. In all this one can seen a case of mental perversity and turpitude. I know some of them who were mediocre students and mediocre bureaucrats but who now pose as mature historians!

If it was not due to first Governor General of Goa, Afonso de Albuquerque, Goa would have been like Ratnaguiri, Sawantwadi, Karwar, or Mangalore the unknown territory in the Indian land. Goa what it was before 1961 was a remarkable mixture of East and West. What it's now after 1961 became is just another ugly land like Karnataka and Maharashtra lost in the wilderness of Indian Independence.

I tell you this because I was never a mediocore student or bureaucrat, or a Portuguese beneficiary, I was a 14 year old boy in 1961, a lover boy of my motherland Goa to judge the history, which you guys robbed me and others in treason.

To protest loudly against the insult done to the freedom fighters we needed some courageous people like Madhav Bir and Dr Pundalik Gaitonde but they were not with us today. However, if this note should go in print, I wish it to be in Gaitonde's language: "I protest". I do, indeed, protest against the glaring insult done to the freedom fighters, both dead and alive.

You called them courageous, you and others so-called freedom fighters were cowards and deserve no respect from real Goans of the soil.

Once when the question of pensionery benefits to freedom fighters was being discussed with Pratapsingh Rane in the chair as chief minister, he objected to any raise, even though what the freedom fighters were getting and still get is a pittance and the beggars on the street would have thrown it back on the face of the giver with a disdain.

Shame on you guys asking for the price of treason commited against my motherland Goa. Move to your motherland India and ask your late Panditji and others for forgiveness.

When the foundation stone of the prestigious Assembly Complex at Porvorim -- in the land belonging to the Serula Communidade -- was laid, the freedom fighters who had offered themselves to sacrifice their lives for the liberation of Goa were invited. At that time, Shaikh Hassan was the Speaker.

However, when this very prestigious monument took shape, the freedom fighters were ignored on the occasion of its inauguration, seemingly to spite them on the face, and maybe, to ward off bad luck as is done to widows on auspicious occasions.

To the best of my knowledge, none of the elected members of the Goa's Assembly has any tradition of fighting for the liberation of their motherland; not even their ancestors have. Therefore, none of them raised their voices against the injustice that was being done to the elite of the society in Goa and the whole of India -- the freedom fighters.

It is, therefore, that Panditji was forced to take military action when all the perusasive means had failed; certainly it was not to rape Goa! Special mention must be made, however, of Pernem MLA Jitendra Deshprabhu who, like a good Samaritan, made a mention of the injustice done to the freedom fighters. I thank him for that!

We have a Freedom Fighters' Association which ought to have protested but these honourable gentlemen are a spent force and their strength lies in soliciting petty favours from the ministers who, otherwise, treat freedom fighters like impertinent beggars.

The vote by illiterates and ignorants is a bane that perpetrates and perpetuates the so-called democracy. May God save us from these elements who are the outcome of our own aspirations for which we sacrificed, living in cells and dungeons so that the present day gentlemen and gentlewomen may relax their exhausted minds and bodies at the cost of the tax-payer in our state-of-the-art Assembly Complex in Porvorim, which of course, must be much better than Singapore and Thailand.

When we brought the Indian National Congress to Goa in 1962, I requested Panditji to give a message to Goans. Panditji said that "Goa's future is bright". My other companions Puruxottam Kakodkar, Tony D'Souza and Xencor Sardessai rejoiced at the assurance given, but to our misfortune we are facing the emergence of turncoats and smugglers, and the people vote for them! Every three to six months the monkeys jump from one party (branch) to another. Sometimes they jump back and gullible poeple clap at their acrobatics. Within years these acrobats ate hillocks, rivulets, sea shores, and khazan land at a huge premium. Each ministry that comes is worse than the previous one. Where it all will lead is a mystery, which the people will have to solve sometime with a whip in their hands.
