The Provincial Planning and Development Office have been
considered as the “Data Repository of the Provincial Government. Pertinent
data from various offices, local and national alike, were collected by the
PPDO staff. They were supposed to be used for analysis in planning
activities. But looking at these voluminous data (mostly in matrix format),
it is often difficult to make an analysis from it. Organizing, storage and
retrieval of these data presents yet another big problem. Then entered GIS. In 1999, ARD-GOLD Projects introduced GIS to
this Office. It is found to be an absolute answer to the department’s
problems in handling the data. Presenting data with a spatial dimension
offers a better understanding to the situation and appropriate actions can be
decided sooner than usual. Embracing this technology, the Geographic Information System
Section of the Provincial Planning & Development Office (PPDO-GIS) was
created to undertake necessary activities to come-up with a functional
application of this new technology. |
