Travel UN!imited
|
|
Hi and welcome to Travel UN!imited. My name is Anamika, and that means, the Nameless One. Very funny. That's
me on the right, of course, but I don't always look like that. Usually
I am tall, blond, and gorgeous. (Sometimes I even comb my hair.)
I love traveling, and have traveled quite a bit in India and abroad, mostly with
my husband, Amit. This website is meant to record for posterity, my travel experiences: the good, the bad and the simply unbelievable (in no particular order). If you're looking for distances, costs, places to stay and other such dry information, you are unlikely to easily find it here (though it may find passing mention, occasionally). If you want the real flavor of a place as experienced by me - the entire, unabridged, unabashed truth - you've come to the right place! The photographs are by me or Amit, and
sometimes even we don't know which
are which.
If you only want to see the photographs, visit my Photo Gallery.
If you want to read other writings by me, visit Anamika's Miscellany.
If you want to know more about me, click the picture on the right.

Ajanta, Ellora, and Daulatabad
The
best of the best - paintings, sculpture, and fort capture the essence of ancient Indian life in many different ways. An account of our trip in January 2005.

Ranthambhore: A World Untamed
Paradise found. Nature still rules supreme in a few corners of the world, where animals are at home and humans are visitors in their world. A world I was lucky to be part of, one enthralling weekend in May 2006.

The Stupas of Sanchi
The
stupas of Sanchi, massive and serene, speak volumes with their deep,
still silence. Notes from my visit in November 2000.

Roopkund: Breathless and Cold at 16,000 Ft.
Gaining 6000 ft. over 4 days, walking in the Indian Himalayas, may not be everyone's idea of fun - especially when the temperature drops below zero and the rain turns to sleet. I was not sure it would be my idea of fun either, when I set out for Roopkund one memorable week in October 2003.

Going Solo in MP: Vidisha and Gyaraspur
Just me and my backpack. My first solo adventure took me to the heart of Madhya Pradesh, to discover little-known pockets of history in November 2004.

Tapovan: A Himalayan Odyssey
The
courage of a lion and a lust for adventure I am not possessed of - so I
still wonder how I survived this, my first agonising Himalayan trek in April 2000.

Going Solo in MP: Bhimbetka
The rock shelters in Bhimbetka, with their immense silence, their sense of antiquity and the eternity of their primitive and fascinating art had me enthralled.

Kabini Revisited
Third time lucky in search of the elusive tiger? That's what we were wondering as we set off to Kabini for the third time in April 2006.

Badami, Aihole, Pattadakal
Rock
cut caves and temples dating back to the fifth century onwards, when early
Hindu architects began experimenting with various shapes and forms. It's
interesting if you want to trace the evolution of Hindu architecture, and
to know what might have been.

The Railway Track Trek
A motley crew of six ventured on this easy and beautiful walk through the hilly countryside of Karnataka, along a long-disused railway track. Around curves, over gorges and through innumerable bat-infested tunnels we followed the tracks for two long, tiring and fun-filled days in January 2001.

Jaisalmer: Castles in the Sand
A living
fort, made of a golden stone, massive and delicately carved,
a crowded town with a rustic air and narrow cobble stone streets - Jaisalmer
belongs to another world. Notes from my trip in December 1995.

Kerala: God's Own Country
Kerala
is so irresistably beautiful that it is not surprising anyone would go there
more than once. We have been several times, and
have always come away enchanted. This article relates the tales of my first visit to God's Own Country, in October 1998.

The Glorious Ruins of Hampi
Sand
and stone, heat and dust, silence and history - they all come together in
this kingdom of ruins. Though I have visited Hampi several times already, I wouldn't hesitate to go there yet again.

The Thrills and Spills of White-Water Rafting
Memories of an exciting, wet and wild weekend at Agumbe, Karnataka, in 1998.

Mandu - The Forgotten Kingdom
The abandoned fortress of Mandu, near Indore, is an almost-forgotten piece of Indian history. Here, there are no tourists crowding every monument - only silence and nature, slowly but surely reclaiming the landscape for itself.

Camping at Chembra
Four of us left Bangalore on a Friday night in November 2004, determined to climb a hill and spend a lazy day by a lake followed by an idyllic night under the stars.

Memories of Bikaner
I visited Bikaner in December 1995 and came away with memories of a land both beautiful and enchanting.
