| Welcome to Poulson Cello Studios! You have made the right decision to take your music training to the next level. Following is a list of policies that makes up the contract between the teacher and student (and parents). Please read these policies carefully, asking any questions you may have, and then sign below as indicated. Students' Responsibilities: Practice. The student's progress depends on his/her dedication and hard work. Practicing is the basis for achievement. Generally, students are required to practice for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Specific requirements will be set with the teacher and student during weekly lessons. Other student responsibilities include: Arrive 5 minutes early to lessons, to allow time to unpack and tune your instrument. Provide feedback to the teacher: Are the lessons too easy? Is something coming up that will limit your practice time? What are your goals? Keep a positive attitude and communicate. Parents' Responsibilities: A chaperone is required at each lesson for children under 18. Please let us know in advance if you are unable to attend your child's lesson so an alternative chaperone can be secured. Your child needs to see your support and enthusiasm. Encourage your child to practice as instructed by the teacher by providing and enforcing specific practice days and times. Notice when s/he improves and reward that improvement. Give positive feedback to both your child and the teacher. Most importantly, frequently communicate your concerns with the teacher Teachers' Responsibilities: I will provide weekly instruction to the student on how to play the cello. This includes music theory (note reading, key signatures, etc), correct bow and finger positioning, intonation, sight-reading, competition coaching, and performance technique. Each week, I will help the student set a specific cello goal, and then we will work to successfully achieve that goal. I will give constant feedback as to how the student can improve his/her skills. I am also responsible to arrive on time to each lesson, to give advance notice for cancellation or rescheduling, and to organize quarterly recitals for student performance. Recitals: Performing is essential to musicianship. Studio recitals are held quarterly, and all students are expected to perform in each recital. This gives students a specific date by which s/he can reach a goal, also frequent opportunities to perform in front of an audience. Performers should attend in Sunday best. Arrive 15 minutes early to tune and prepare to listen and perform. A reception will follow the performances. Materials Needed: The student is responsible for providing his/her own cello, bow, case, and rosin. Depending on a student's height, a special chair may also need to be obtained. The teacher will assign music for the lesson; music can be purchased at local music stores or will be provided by the teacher at a minimal cost, added to the monthly lesson charge. Occasionally, the teacher may request a cassette tape to record passages of music for the student to listen to at home. The tape can be provided by the student or added to the monthly lesson charge. If additional charges are incurred, a statement will be provided at the end of the month, to be paid with the regular lesson payment. Financial Obligations: 30-minute lessons are $32 per month; 45-minute lessons are $48 per month. Payment is required by the first lesson of each month. A $2.00 late fee per day is charged for late payments. Cash and personal check are accepted. Returned checks are charged an additional $25.00, plus the late fee for each day that payment is not received. If a check is returned for insufficient funds, all future payments will be required in cash or cashier's check. No exceptions can be made. Cancellations: Unexpected events are bound to happen. However, regular lessons are key to a student's progress. Please let us know at least 24 hours before your scheduled lesson, and the lesson can be changed to a different day the same week or for another day in the future. Without the 24-hour notice, we will not be able to reschedule and you will be charged for the lesson. Payment for a missed lesson, with or without advance notice, cannot be refunded. This policy ensures fair treatment of all parties involved. On the occasion that the lesson is cancelled by the teacher, the student may have the option to either reschedule to another day or time, or to discount that lesson from the next month's lesson payment. |
