| Q: I want my son to learn to play the cello, but I think he's too young. At what age can he start? | |||||||||||||||||
| A: Even very young children can learn to play the cello. Girls usually can start formal music training by the age of four. Boys usually take a little more time to develop their attention span and social skills; they can start cello lessons by age five. Of course, every child is different, so an assessment will be made before the first lesson. | |||||||||||||||||
| Q: I've always wanted to learn to play the cello. Can adults learn? | |||||||||||||||||
| A: We all know that children learn faster than adults. However, adults CAN learn to play the cello! Lessons for adults are much more catered to your own expectations and goals, helping you reach your potential at your own pace. | |||||||||||||||||
| Q: I don't think I can afford private music lessons for my child. How much will it cost me? | |||||||||||||||||
| A: Beginning students take 30-minute lessons at $32/month. Intermediate and advanced students are required 45-minute lessons at $48/month. Payment is required at the beginning of the first lesson of each month; personal checks and cash are accepted. Additional costs include instrument rental or purchase and repair, sheet music, and cassette tapes for listening excercises and practice. However, scholarships are available for dedicated students; contact us to obtain the Scholarship Application Form. |

| Q: Can you come to my house for my child's cello lessons? | |||||||||||||||||
| A: Lessons are held in the teachers' home. Exceptions can be made by holding lessons at the student's school, with the permission of the school's music teacher. Contact us for more information. | |||||||||||||||||
| Q: My child is so busy and doesn't have a lot of time to practice! How much practice time is required outside of lessons? | |||||||||||||||||
| A: We're all familiar with the adage, "Practice Makes Perfect". That applies to learning to play the cello, too. (I like to tell my students that they don't have to practice every day, just the days they eat!) Students of the Poulson Cello Studios are required to practice at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. The teacher will evaluate the students' progress each week and give suggestions to increase practice time effectiveness. Students who refuse or are unable to comply with the practice policy will be released from participation in lessons. | |||||||||||||||||
