| Port Charlotte-A Little History: My parents, Jim & Charlotte Fischer moved our family up to Minnesota from Chicago back in 1960. We spent our first 15 years or so living on the East side of Lake Minnetonka, however our home was not on the Lake. It was my mom's dream to actually have a house on the Lake, and in 1977 she realized that dream when she and my dad bought what is now, what we call Port Charlotte. My mom enjoyed her dream for 13 years. In November of 1989, she lost her battle with breast cancer. Many of the folks who have Lake property "name" their homes. Ours used to be called Fischerman's Wharf, but after my mom passed away, my dad re-named the home Port Charlotte. He continued to live in the house and enjoyed the Lake until he passed away from prostate cancer in February of 2002. Their legacy is now mine, and in honor of both of them I feel it is necessary to keep the home as much the same as it was when they were here as possible. The house is "my mom" everywhere! She made the draperies, shower curtains, wall hangings and many other things that are seen about the house. It is only appropriate that I keep the name Port Charlotte in her honor, and it is my priveledge to do so. I reside just about 2 miles away. I and my family enjoy the home when it is vacant, and we do keep our boats there even when we have tenants. My husband and I look forward to spending our retirement years at Port Charlotte. The house has seen many a happy day. We have enjoyed many summer nights of board games and lots of laughs on that old porch, and many a winter night enjoying what my dad called a "friendly fire" in the fireplace. I know there will be many more to come. In the mean time, we offer it to you so you can make your own happy memories here. I know my parents would like that. Debbie Fischer-Vertnik |
