DRAGONS DEFEAT MAGNA CARTA IN EXHIBITION RUGBY.
Drop kicks gets the job done.

PFT News, Magna Carta

Coach Keith Wright of the Locke Harbour Dragons had promised more diversity in the Dragons attack, and he was able to at least partially deliver on that yesterday in Magna Carta as the Dragons completely dominated the Crusaders on the way to their second win of the exhibition season, 16-0

The Dragons, from the onset were focused on drop kicks, and in the first half, though having plenty of opportunities to score tries, choose instead to try for the drop goal.  They were successful on 3 occasions to make it 9-0 by halftime however one has to question whether three drop kick goals out of eleven will really signify a quality drop kick game.

The Dragon however did not seem to let statistics get in their way as they continued the drop kicking frenzy though were unsuccessful in this regards for the remainder of the match.

It was not until the 89th minute when the Dragons finally decided to barge in for a try to raise the count to 16-0 following the successful conversion.  As the game ended both teams were booed off the field by the Magna Carta fans who were quite disappointed in both the play of their own team and the willingness of the Dragons to use the game as more of a practice than a real showmanship of talent.

Coach Keith Wright however defended his decision to focus on drop kicking throughout the game as, 'we need to show the rest of the league that we are a serious contender and that they need to focus on more than just our pack to shut us down'.

Some Dragon fans, who had made the trip to Magna Carta seemed unimpressed however with the victory today.  'Our backs were horrible, we could not hit a drop kick for most of the game, and we did not score much, I am worried once we start playing some of the better teams in the league', noted one Dragon fan after the game.

Meanwhile in other exhibition news around the league from yesterday:

-In the city of Peace, the Warriors were able to defeat the expansion southern Locke Harbour Blues 24-17 in a game closer on the scoreboard than on the actual pitch.

-In Athens the Invaders were able to hold off a late rally by the Imperialists to defeat Viscount Bennett 33-31.

-The Stanislav Lions lost in Workers Point, despite outplaying the Bobcats, due to a last second drop kick that helped the Bobcats win 17-15.

-The Lenita Legions and the Pearson Cliffs Pirates settled nothing after battling to a draw 21-21 in the city of Lenita.  The game, billed by some as a prelude to this years championship was a hard fought contest with both teams giving it their all.

Coach Keith Wright had promised more than just a bunch of raging forwards this season, and the Dragons somewhat proved that against the Magna Carta Crusaders yesterday.
