How to Play

Tips For Beginners

For those of you who are just starting out in the game of pool,
I've written these tips to help improve your game. I hope you
will find them useful.

Chalk Your Cue - Getting enough chalk on your cue is essential
to making solid contact with the cue ball. Beginners should chalk
their cue before each shot to give you the best chance of sinking
it.

Use The Rake When Neccessary - If you can't quite reach the cue ball, you should use the rake to help you get a steady, predictable shot. If you can't reach, and you don't use the rake, you may get an undesired result!

Be Patient, Take Your Time - There's a lot to be said for taking your time, and not rushing your shot. You have a better chance of making it, and you may see another possible shot before you shoot.

Select The Right Cue - To help you make your shots, be sure to select a straight cue with a good tip. You can inspect the tip visually, and roll it across the table to check how straight it is

Plan For Your Next Shot(s) - Before shooting, be sure to plan where the cue ball will end up afterwards. Some simple planning will help you not only make the first shot, but put you in a good position for the next one.

Slower Is Better - It may seem simple, but hitting the cue ball softly can make a huge difference. If you hit it as softly as possible to make the shot, it will have a much better chance of falling in the pocket, and less chance that it will bounce out!

Hit The Center Of The Cue Ball - Beginners should try to hit the cue ball in the exact center, and straight on. As you get better, you can start hitting it in other areas to control the spin.
