From Norman times there was probably regular crossing of Pomeroys to Ireland, though genealogists look for those who settled in a more permanent fashion.

1184 ~Pipe Rolls of Henry II;  Record of a/c for 60/- for passage to Ireland of Joscelin de Pomeray.   Powley�s  history of the Pomeroy states that Henry II offered the Kingdom of Limerick to Joscelin de la Pomerai in 1177 but either he did not accept or failed to subdue it.

1. John Pomeroy of St. Clear,(Liskeard district) Cornwall died in Ireland . His will was probated 12 March, 1619

4.1641 Depositions  (?requests for compensation for losses during the 1641 rebellion)

5. 1641. Lieutenant Samuel Pomeroy came to Ireland with the Army and later came into possession of a property called Pallice about 5 or 6 miles west of Mallow in Co.Cork.
His two sons died before him and the estate was inherited by his grandson Thomas Holmes who added the name Pomeroy. Of Thomas� 4 sons, (1 and 2 )Mathew and Samuel died without male issue, (3) William had a daughter Amelia who inherited Pallice, and (4)George Holmes Pomeroy went to USA , married 1729/30 died 1776  and had descendants.  Amelia  married Richard Phaire and the lands in North Cork are mentioned in a marriage settlement deed of her son Robert Phaire dated 1811, saying that these lands came to the Phaire family through marriage of Amelia Pomeroy.

6.1672. Very Rev. Arthur Pomeroy came to Ireland as chaplain to the Lord Lieutenant, Arthur Capel, Earl of Essex, and obtained the Deanery of Cork. His son Ven. John Pomeroy was Archdeacon of Cork 1717. John�s son Arthur was raised to the peerage as 1st Viscount Harberton .  This line is well documented.

7. 1719 Richard Pomeroy, Ballysimon, Co.Limerick witnessed the will of  George King, Kilpeacon, Co.Limerick.
8. 1718 Richard Pomeroy witnessed the will of Andrew Symes, Ballymoney, Co.Cork
(Note. Could this Richard be son of Dr.Arthur Pomeroy He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin in1700 and was called to the Irish Bar 1712 ?)

11. 1787   Lease of Claramore,�situate in the Barony of Duhallow and the Coy. of Cork� to Henry Pomeroy of Millstreet, in the Coy. of Cork and others. 360 acres.
Leased from Edward Eyre.
1797. Henry  Pomeroy leased a house, shop and offices in Millstreet County Cork.
1798  Robert Pomeroy and his son Richard leased Claramore from Richard Hedges (who later took the name Eyre)
Were Henry and Robert brothers or cousins? Where did they come from?
Henry died about 1810, Robert died before 10/5/1810.
   
12. TITHE APPLOTTMENT SURVEYS  were carried out in the 1830�s in an attempt to consolidate the amounts of Tithes payable on land . These lists only mention some occupiers of land.  Later in the 1850�s Sir Richard Griffith valued all land as a basis for local rates to replace Tithes.  Due to the loss of all census returns before 1901 in a fire at the Public Records Office these are used for family research.
The names here are of Pomeroys unattached to any of the families above.

14.1780�s          RICHARD POMEROY  ancestor of Charles Wilson Pomeroy, Front Royal,  arrived in America from �CO.Cork, Ireland� with two brothers William and John.  The family of Richard has not been identified in Ireland.
(A vast amount of work was done by Charles Wilson Pomeroy on the Pomeroys of Co.Cork about 20 years ago  and is the basis of the family trees with some amendments by Harriett Pomeroy)
15.  1880.         John Henry Pomeroy ,ancestor of Patricia Pomeroy Woods of  Lynn Haven FL., is recorded in the 1880 Mitchel County Ga. Census as born in Ireland. His parents were also born in Ireland. Family tradition says that he hired as a sailor on a ship from Belfast, and remained in USA.
So far his family in Ireland has not been identified.
