The Seafloor Cavern lies in a big oceanic trench on route 128 and was discovered by
Captain Stern in his
submarine in 2003. He also predicted the existence of Groudon and Kyogre deep inside this cavern, but before he could confirm it,
Team Aqua
/ Team Magma
stole his submarine and sneaked off with it to their
hideout!

both then came over to the Seafloor Cavern, each trying to stop the other.
Team Aqua
was trying to awake Kyogre and flood the land while Team Magma
wanted to awake Groudon to dry up all the sea!

The same trainer that tried to stop them at their hideout found them here, but was unable to stop them again and they managed to release the legendary pokémon. However, the pokémon went out of the control of the team and not even the
Mt. Pyre orb could stop it! The trainer ended up having to go to the
Cave of Origin and bring a stop to that pokémon.
