History of Pride of Hialeah #610
By Past Master Emmett Richburg
Sometime during the early
months of the year 1952 seven Master Masons met and signed a petition and got
recommendations from two (2) lodges, so that they could form a new lodge in the
city of Hialeah, county of Dade (Miami-Dade), and the state of Florida. They
met in a church in a small community called Seminole.
They nominated and
recommended Brother Richard Roberts, Sr. to be the first Worshipful Master,
Brother Richard Roberts Jr. to be the first Senior Warden and Brother avid
Bradley to be the first Junior Warden. These Brothers were the first officers
of Lodge Pride of Hialeah #610.
Whereas, on April 22,
1952, a dispensation was granted authorizing and empowering the Brethren a
foresaid to form and open a new Lodge to be called Pride of Hialeah #610.
This dispensation was handed down by The Most Worshipful
Union Grand Lodge of Florida & Belize, Central America, Free &
Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Affiliated, Most Worshipful Charlie Henry 33*
Grand Master.
In the late 1970’s the
lodge moved it’s meeting place to Miami, the meetings would be held at the
Providence Lodge Hall located at northwest 9th Street and
northwest 3rd Avenue. During this time Brother Walter Watson then
a member at Brownsville Lodge #510, was sent to rebuild Pride of Hialeah
Lodge #610.
During this period of the
Pride of Hialeah #610 history, it had low membership. The Worshipful Master
was sick and there were only two (2) brothers active in the lodge, Brother
Walter Chisom and Brother R.B. Greggs. Brother Watson was very successful in
the rebuilding of this lodge.
In late 1980 Pride of
Hialeah #610 moved its’ meeting place to St. Arthur’s Lodge Hall located in
the city of Miami on northwest 52nd Street and northwest 6th Avenue. This is
where they still meet every 1st and 3rd Saturday of
each month at 6;00 p.m.
Past Master Watson was also re-elected
in December 2000 to another two-year term as Worshipful Master. Over the years Pride of Hialeah
has had several Worshipful Masters that needs to mentioned Past Master David
Durham, Past Master Emmett Richburg, Past Master Joseph Lassiter, Past Master
James Pasley, and Past Master Emmit Davis. These brothers are indeed some
true leaders and definitely some of the finest men in this world.
Not mentioned are all of
the wonderful things that the lodge has done over the years; the food drives,
children programs, the mentorship, little league football and baseball,
visiting the sick and homeless, the strong commitment to the community has
made Pride of Hialeah #610 an asset and a part of the community that will
always be remembered.
