Background: Please see this page, cleverly written from Beth's perspective by some very intelligent player who has the characterization down pat...

Description: Beth dresses casually and is usually seen wearing her beloved beret and navy blue hoodie (which at this point is held together by safety pins and hope).  She is frequently mistaken for a male or a foreign exchange student.  She walks, eats, and talks very rapidly.  She doesn't usually display the arrogance you might associate with mages; she doesn't have it all figured out yet, and she knows it.  Beth's true strengths as a character lie not in her raw power but her flexibility.  She doesn't actually know anything about anything; she's just really good at pretending that she does, as demonstrated by her favorite magical effect, the Rote Of BS'ing Your Way Through Term Papers, Essay Tests, And Oral Presentations. (vii)

Roleplaying Tips: Around people you don't know, be quiet, withdrawn, and somewhat shy.  But around people you know and trust, you become talkative and outgoing.  Be sarcastic.  Demonstrate a dark, macabre, and bizarre sense of humor.  Speak in movie quotes, song lyrics, and obscure pop culture references.  Overuse the following words and phrases: "Dude!"  "That was classic!"  "Yay for (blank)!"  "Okay, yeah, that too."  "Now that that's over..."  "Neh."  "Bueeeeeeno."  During awkward silences, applaud and say loudly, "Way to go, conversation killer!"  Jump from subject to subject a lot.  Make little or no sense most of the time.  Space out frequently and miss important details.  Talk faster than you think and spend a lot of time with your foot in your mouth.  Oh, and if you actually play this character, email me so I can have a good laugh.  (c:

Footnotes:

i – Changed my mind!  (c:

ii - Don't laugh, it's true!  She's an SCA fencer!  Well...she's only had one lesson, but an SCA fencer nonetheless!

iii - Beth has extensive knowledge of the geek subculture and can argue for hours about RPGs, science fiction novels, movies, and the like.

iv - Beth was the captain of her high school Quiz Bowl team and annoys her roommate by shouting out the correct answers to Jeopardy! questions.

v - Hair-colored hair, eye-colored eyes, androgyny, and an unplaceable accent make it hard for people to agree on exactly what the heck Beth is.

vi - Beth's dorm room has been taken over by RPG materials, poetry collections, and science fiction and fantasy novels.

vii - I'll get back to you on that one...
