A Hunter Trapper Education Class is required by the Pennsylvania Game Commission for anyone purchasing a Pennsylvania Hunting license for the first time. A minimum of 10 hours of instruction is required. Upon successful completion of the class you will receive an orange card. This card must be presented to the issuing License Agent at time of purchase of your license. If you wish to Hunt or Trap in Pennsylvania you must have a Hunting and/or Trapping License as required by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Anyone 12 years and older may attend the class. If you are 11 and will be 12 within the same year of the class, you may attend. However, you will not be able to purchase a Hunting License until you turn 12.

All of our Instructors are certified by the Pennsylvania Game Commission and most of them are NRA certified firearms instructors.

Safety is the main topic of the class and is heavily stressed. Nomenclature and safe handling of firearms, ammunition, bows and arrows are taught at length followed by a visit from a Game Commission Wildlife Conservation Officer (better known as the Game Warden). The officer takes the students through the Game Laws and the do's and don'ts of safe hunting. Trapping and Black Powder are also covered.

In the classroom participation aspect, the Students go through simulated situations they will come across while hunting or trapping. This gives them the chance to experience some of the subject matter taught in the class. The class is completed with a 60 question multiple choice written test.

The Instructors will then open up the Trap Range for students to shoot a few clay pigeons with a shotgun. This is not a class requirement.

The basis of the class is teaching common sense. To make SAFETY first and foremost and to be an Ethical Sportsperson. It is to teach the student to be aware of the responsibility they have for themselves and for others while in the field Hunting or Trapping.
