Today Planet X played it's second show at Capitol Garage, (Gig #19). The openning act was Karousel, an Alternative Group (who reminded me of The Cure, Filter & Jawbox) Following them came Verbal Lock, a three man Hip-Hop outfit w/DJ. They had microphone problems a the start, but once they got going they were high energy. They were very tight and very organized in their presentation. Most of their lyrics were the typical old-school braggadocio, but they threw in a little bit of that Public Enemy social consciousness as well. They were cool.
Then, it was our turn. And I have to admit we started out a bit rough too. First we ran into mic problems (like Verbal Lock had), then Darryl couldn't get any sound out of this guitar (bad cable), then once he did -- his entire amp began to turn of every time he played (loose connection). Once we got past all of that though, things went smoothly. We played "Pain", "Run", "Pay your dues" and "The Hero-Inn" from out CD, then switched to the newer songs like "I'm not going", "The Price", "Go", and finished with "Not Like U". We did play the songs a little fast, (probably because we lost so much time in the start and only had 45mins) but they still worked. Fortunately Darryl had practiced doing all the solos quick, can you say 32nd and 64th note runs?
I knew that you could.
Finally, we had a good crowd and got an excellent response, Verbal Lock had packed the house, and they stayed after their set to catch ours which was cool. They and Karousel both get special shout-out from us. Thanks guys.
