Our first show at Cafe Paris in Downtown Sacramento (Gig #10). In fact, this was our first gig in Downtown Sacramento - Period. For us, this is an entirely new crowd and for a time we we're actually afraid to play Downtown, but the vibe is really nice and every one was absolutely polite. There's was nothing to fear, but "fear itself" I guess. Cafe Paris is fairly small (Mitch's drum kit alone pretty much filled the stage) so we had to bring our own P.A. system. Unfortunately that complicated matters greatly, since this was also the first time that we have ever done that too. And naturally, not all the bugs were worked out. We couldn't get any of the backing vocal mikes working or the feed for lead guitar through the PA either. Fortunately the club has a small PA of it's own, so we mixed and matched sending lead vocals through our system and some backing vocals through theirs.
There's really nothing like American Ingenuity.
The poor sound caused me to strain my voice a bit (which I'm still recovering from) , but our crowd response was excellent and almost immediately after the show the Club owner invited us back for another gig on September 10th. (Proon also put on an excellent show) By that time we'll have several new songs as well as all of our own PA issues completely worked out. We're testing out setup in practice and it's working fine so far.
Our show planned for Aug 13th at Club X-Treme has been cancalled. They've decided they only want to book local acts, if they have a national level headliner. Most bookings of this type are handled through local promoters whom - at this point in time - we are not connected with. Our next live performance will on Aug 22nd at Club Cocodrie in San Francisco and following that we will play Downtown Sac a second time on August 28th at Johnny Love's Cafe.
We are also trying to negotiate some spec studio time so that we can capture our sound with Mitch on tape. He definately takes the songs to an entirely new level, not only with his drumming but also with his soulful backing vocals.
As a band we're still on the ground floor, but we've got all four wheels on the car now and the path is clear ahead...
We're on the road to Somewhere, now.
