Free Pistol

This is the premier event of the shooting sports and the oldest. It is shot at the Olympic Games and is a true test of marksmanship, control and nerves. It is called "Free Pistol" because the pistol used is free of restrictions and rules except that it must be of .22  calibre. The event is shot over 50m on the International Precision Target, which has a 50mm ten ring. No support is allowed for the firing hand. The match consists of 60 shots in 2 hours with a possible score of 600.
The pistols are single shot and highly refined, with falling block Martini actions, long barrels and sight radius, elaborate adjustable grips and set triggers or electronic triggers which are extremely light. These pistols can group into less than 10mm at 50m.
