More than just childcare
About Our Childcare Provider
My Childcare Philosophy

Children are wonderful beings who need a safe and positive environment
to grow and thrive.  As a childcare provider, my goal is to provide a happy place where children can learn and grow physically,
emotionally, intellectually and socially at their own pace.

I give the children in my care opportunities to learn in a family-like setting with a mixed aged group, where they can feel safe, loved, and can begin to build a positive self image.  Your child will receive quality personal and individualized care in a warm and loving home.  Your child will be given opportunities that will encourage curiosity, initiative, independence, decision making capabilities, physical activity that promotes gross motor skills, communication skills, fine motor development, interaction with and respect for others.

About Me

I am the mother to three boys and step-mother to one girl.  In 2001 two of my boys were diagnosed with Autism.  This lead to my training in many new fields.
Over the past few years I have taken the More Than Words workshop (teaching speech and language techniques) and learned to use the Picture Exchange Communitcations system through Grandview Children's Center.  I have been trained in Applied Behaviour Analysis, First Aid and CPR (Infant training included).  I attended Grant MacEwan College where I obtain my Level 1 ECD Certificate and I have taken a course in Child Psychology. I have attended the Durham Home Childcare seminar and I am also a member of the Durham Region Home Child Care Association.  I was a regular volunteer every Monday morning at Woodcrest P.S.in the Kindergarten class where on many occasions I did their morning circle time.  I really enjoyed working closely with the Kindergarten teacher and students over the past year. It has helped me to fine tune my own preschool program more and to identify what skills are really needed for children to have before entering  kindergarten.

I have been doing childcare since 1997.  I officially opened as Pipers Playhouse on September 21, 2003 where I began my preschool program.  I enjoy watching the children learn and discover new things with each passing day.

THE CHILDCARE PROVIDER

Although I'm not their mother,
I care for them each day.
I cuddle, sing and read to them,
And watch them as they play.
I see each new accomplishment,
and help them grow and learn,
I understand their language,
and I listen with concern.
They come to me for comfort,
And I kiss away their tears.
They proudly show their work to me.
I give the loudest cheer!
No, I am not their mother,
But my role is just as strong.
I nurture them and keep them safe.
Though maybe not for long.
I know someday the time may come,
When we will have to part,
But I know each child I've cared for
Is forever in my HEART!
I was the Spotlight Member of February 2006 for the Durham Region Home Child Care Association. To learn more click here
