{rolloSimilar to the Type 69, this Type 85 has more punch that its predecessor, with a more powerfull 105 mm tank gun, the NATO Standard weapon, with thermal sleeve. NORINCO developed this design form 1978, and the first prototypes were delivered in 1985.

There is another version later developed, but it has only minor diferent details. The standard equipment includes stabilised fire control system with laser range-finder, full NBC, night sights, long range fuel tanks (optative), and the capability to lay smoke screens by injecting fuel into the exahust outlet.
