{rollThe Chinese Army ordered to NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation) the development of a new tank with heavy armament for matching the main modern tanks of other countries. The Type 85-II and Type 85-IIA, still fit the 105 mm rifled tank present in other Chinese series, but the Type 85-IIM mounts a 125 mm smooth bore gun with automatic loader. This 125 mm gun is fully stabilised and controlled by a computerised fire control system with laser-range finder. Also the serie is equipped with full NBC, night vision equipment, and the capability to lay smoke screens by injecting fuel in the exhaust outlet.

Pakistan is producing the type 69-II and the Type 85-IIAP, under license, and the next step in this path has been the Type 90-II, named The Khalid, with a better powerpack. }
