Community Voices

Hello everyone

My name is Melissa Landreth, and for the past year-and-change, Ive been in charge of printing your (and my) Pine Oaks Community Newsletter.  However, as Barbara has told you in her note from the president, and as Im sure you realized when it didnt materialize, I neglected to print the August 2007 issue.  I assure all of you that it was not an intentional decision.  You see, I received the August issue on Saturday, July 28.  It was my intention to bring it to Super Copy that weekend, so that the newsletter could hit the table at Super Copy promptly on Wednesday, August 1.

Unfortunately, that Monday, July 30, my cell phone battery went dead.  It could not be recharged, so I needed to see my cell phone provider about the issue.  It was too late in the afternoon for me to attend to it then, so on Tuesday, July 31, I took some time off from work to deal with the problem.  I drove to the cell phone store, where I was informed that I had to contact the manufacturer and have them send me a replacement battery.  I couldnt call the manufacturer, however, since as I said before, my battery was dead.  From there it was a proverbial comedy of errors, but you dont see me laughing!  I wont bore you with the details, only to say that I can no longer frequent a particular pet store.  They know why.  Also, Id like to apologize to the good people who live at 1222 Dolphy St.  Only I know why.  Yet.  As to why the newsletter was never posted online, well I can only say that Fred Muldoon is to blame for that, so take your proverbial pitchforks and torches and proverbially storm his house with your proverbial concerns.

Finally, it got to be Tuesday, August 21, which seemed to me to be a little too late to print the newsletter.  So that part was intentional.

In summation, and to review, Wednesday, August 1 Tuesday, August 21: not intentional;Wednesday August 22 Friday, August 31: intentional; a certain pet store, disgraceful.

Rt. 237 High School Fighting Spirit

Hello there Pine Oaks

I find it interesting that the month in which I complain about my column not being run, the newsletter magically disappears.  Well, Im one to let be bygones be themselves, so lets get on with this months Fighting Spirit.

Rt. 237 High School is proud to welcome back its returning students as well as its incoming freshmen, for the 2007-2008 school year.  But the year has already started for some students.  Our cross country team, the Running Fighting Van Burens, is preparing for its first big race of the year at Reservoir High School, and our football team begins its hopeful season! (this was written before the August 31 game.)  Finally, the Rt. 237 marching band, the Marching Fighting Van Burens, has been preparing in earnest for the fall marching season.  You can catch them in action at any of the home football games, and any of their Saturday morning competitions.

Finally, its class election season!  As Ive mentioned before, this year Ill be running for senior class president.  Im going to run a clean race, and once they announce their candidacies, Ill wish my fellow candidates well.
