Which Pokemon to Choose?
After starting the game, you will be confronted with a choice; which Pokemon to choose? Basically in all the versions, you will have three Pokemon to choose from except for Yellow version. Click at the links at the bottom to know which Pokemon is the best choice to choose in the particular version: Pokemon Blue and Red version Pokemon Yellow version Pokemon Gold version Pokemon Blue and Red version Both starting Pokemon to choose from is the same in both these versions. They are: Bulbasaur- Most poeple say that this is the suitable Pokemon for beginners and first time players. There are a few main reasons which bring to this conclusion. One of them is Bulbasaur level up the fastest of all three Pokemon and it evolves to its final form faster than the other two Pokemon. The other two Pokemon evolves to they're last form at level 36 while Bulbasaur evolves at level 32. That's four levels away! The other reason is that Bulbasaur's grass attack is super effective against the first two gyms in the game. The first gym uses rock and ground type Pokemon while the second gym uses water type Pokemon. since Bulbasaur is a grass type Pokemon, so it is super effective against both gyms. Bulbasaur has two disadvantages though. It lears its last attack when it evolves to its final form the latest of all three Pokemon; level 65! That is way further than the other two Pokemon which learns them around 10 levels earlier. The other thing is, if you want to use Bulbasaur's last attack, the strongest grass attack, you will. have to wait two turns to use it. At the first turn, it will say that Bulbasaur is storing energy. Then only the next turn it uses it. When I (Justin) was fighting Bulbasaur at the Pokemon League, the bulbasaur was elvel 65. I used a Pigeotto level 45 and fought it. Since Fly it super effective against Bulbasaur, so I used. Everytime Bulbasaur wants to use Solarbeam (the ultimate attack) and it charges, I use Fly so when my Pokemon is airbond, It can't come out its attack so at last using the same tactic thoughout, I won Bulbasaur. Although so, I still recommend that you use Bulbasaur if you are a first timer.

Squirtle- The second choice you have. This one's a water type Pokemon. Looking at its shell behind, you can know that its defence is strong and also the strongest of all three Pokemon. This Pokemon is for average users. Its growth rate is medium, in between both Pokemon. It evolves to the second form at level 16, same as the others and evolves to its last form at level 36, same as Charmander. This Pokemon is only super effective in the first while the second gym, it is not very effective because it is of its same type. This Pokemon also learns the ultimate for water type, Hydro Pump. Unlike Bulbasaur, Hydro Pump does not need two turn to attack. One disadvantage: sinc Squitle's defence is the highest of all three Pokemon, its attack power is not the strongest and so is its speed.

Charmander- The last choice you have, which is a fire type Pokemon. This Pokemon should be left out to the experts to handle. This Pokemon is not very effective against the first two gyms. In fact, the second gym is super effective against Charmander as water puts out fire. You will have a very hard time facing the second gym is this case. One advantage is that Charmander has the highest attackpower and the highest speed. Another advantage is that this Pokemon has two ultimate attacks; Flamethrower and Firespin. If you count strengh, Flamethrower is much more stronger than Firespin. The thing is, Firespin can attack two to five times in a row in which the enemy can't counterattack back as they can't move. The disadvantages are Flamethrower and Firespin are both not the ultimate move for fire type. The ultimate move is contained inside a TM which later you will get after defeating the fire type gym leader, Blaine, on Cinnibar Island which is Fireblast. Another thing is almost all of the gyms that you will encounter, Charmander isn't super effective against them. So, overall, Charmander isn't such a good choice for beginners but if you like challenges, take Charmander

Pokemon Yellow version In Pokemon Yellow version, your starting Pokemon is actually an Eevee. When you are about to take your Eevee from Professor Oak, Gary who was standing beside you snatches it from you and say that he wants it. Professor Oak wanted to stop Gary but then lets him take it (actually, Eevee is the only Pokemon on Professor Oak's table). Professor Oak will ask you to come and he gives you a Pikachu that is still wild, according to him (the Pikachu is the one that Professor Oak catches when you were about to go out of Pallet Town). This Pikachu is somehow different from other Pikachu you can find inside Blue version. It's cry is different fomother Pikachu. It's cry is like the one in the show. And like in the show too, it follows you around and you can talk to it to see it's mood. Another thing, it seems to be stronger than the snormal Pikachui (note that you can't find Pikachu it Yellow version). So, don't worry about making decisions in Yellow version...you will surely have to take Pikachu as your starting Pokemon no matter how.
