After that, Pikachu is seen using                                    Thundershock on the screen and the screen                                         flashes. Pikachu is seen then saying, "Pika".       Pokemon Gold version -First, the screen shows a few Shellders in the                                     ocean and then the screen moves up and a                                           Lapras is seen. The screen flashes in then out                                      and a Pikachu running in a forest is seen. It                                         then does a flying kick on a Jigglypuff which is                                   singing and the screen flashes in and out again.  Snapshots                    Then, a Waniku is seen, then followed by a                                         Chikorita, after that a Hinoarashi and lastly a                                        Charizard appears and burns the screen using                                      Flamethrower. On the last screen, a Houou is                                      seen filying but it's gold in colour (Waniku,                                          Cikolita, Hinoarahi are the three starting                                               Pokemon in Gold and Silver version and Houou                                    is a legendary bird Pokemon which exists in                                        Gold and Silver version).

Press the A button until you reach a screen where you will be confronted with a few options in which basically all the Pokemon versions are the same:
Continue
You will continue playing the previously saved game (this option is only available if you have saved a game before this). When you save your game again, your gameboy (or emulator) will automatically save over your saved game before this.
New Game
By pressing this option, you will have to play the game again from the very beginning of the game.
Option
This let's you customize on how you want the game to be played. These are the options available:
Speed               -Changes Text messages to three different levels
Battle Animation -Set the animation in battle to on or off.
Battle Style        -Select the way you want to battle either shift (after                               defeating a trainer's Pokemon, you can switch to                                 another Pokemon for the next battle) or set (you will                            not be able to change your Pokemon after you defeat                            a trainer's Pokemon).

Select New Game and your Pokemon adventure will start from there. In Pokemon Blue, Red and Yellow version, you will just need to listen to the introduction by Professor Oak and type in your name and your rival's name. In Gold version, you will have to tell Proffessor Oak the time because Pokemon Gold version is a bit special from other versions of Pokemon (excluding Silver version). Different Pokemon can be caught at the same place  depending wether it is day or night. What's more, the screen colour is also darker when it is night and brighter when it is morning to evening.
