The Beast at Paramount Kings Island is, by far, my favorite woodie of all time. Now, I havent ridden many wooden rollercoasters, and I dont really like wooden coasters, but from the few that I have experienced, and liked, never have I felt so happy. This coaster is also the longest coaster I have been on. From releasing of the station brakes, to the block brakes right before re-entering the station, the ride is just under 4 1/2 minutes long. |

Woodie - Industry term for wooden rollercoaster. Perverts may think otherwise. |

Block Brakes - Brakes that allow multiple trains on the track. They are designed to prevent trains to crash into eachother. What happens is, a train will be held at a set of block brakes until the one ahead of it clears the other set. The chain lift, and station are considered as block brakes being that they wont let the train that they are holding to pass unless the train before it clears the brake run, or other stopping mechanisims.
Out and Back - The most basic track layouts. Usually oval shaped, or figure eight shaped. The train doesnt pass the station like a double out and back, or triple out and back (like the Coney Island Cyclone) |

The Beast is an amazing ride. Its all about speed. It has, if I remember correctly, 4 tunnels, 2 chain lifts, and the 2nd tallest drop of a wooden rollercoaster. The Beast is also a terrain coaster, which basically means the ride isnt a simple out and back. It goes all about and has trees planted so close you'd swear your arms will grace their branches as you scream by. I love this ride. After the second chain lift, the ride lets you know who is boss. There is this real sick helix down into tunnel into incline into an incline into helix down combination. If you can imagine going through all of this while maintaining roughly 60mph.
The Beast definatelly wants to be a steel coaster by the way it runs its course. The first car experience is nothing short of lovely. For some reason, the last car / row of any woodie is always painful. |

So it has two chain lifts. You would think that most of the time was spent on the chainlifts. Nope. Not on The Beast. I don't know how they did it, but there is a flat run before the second lift hill. The train races into the second lift hill so quickly that it doesnt even slow down until the train reaches the hill's apex. Speed.
I love a ride that has some type of theming. One really cool thing P:KI has going for The Beast is they literally have paw prints on the foot path from the park entrance all the way to the ride. Now thats theming. Not to mention the signage on the station and on the lift hill to "Do Not Enter the Woods, The Beast is Loose." In short. . . Great Ride. |

Flat Run - A section of track that has no elements to it. No turns, no incline, no decline, no anything. Its just a flat run. |
