Committee, Your task is a serious matter, chronic pain afflicts millions of Americans. Limited funds are available for to research therapy strategies that have scientifically reasonable merits for success. The Executive Director needs your committee to evaluate the research studies and literature in the static magnet therapy field. He needs and answer to this question; Are the claims of static magnet pain therapy scientifically reasonable? In four days you will report your findings to the Executive Director. The Executive Director is very busy evaluating the future status of the many NIH supported research programs. You will have just 8 minutes of the Executive Director's time to present your recommendation. The Executive Director will be expecting a short PowerPoint presentation that clearly summarizes you findings about the clinical evidence, the behavior of magnetic fields in this therapy, and the reasoning behind your funding decision. You should know that the Executive Director has no formal physics training and knows very little about magnetism. You will need to present any physics concepts in your presentation in clear and easy to understand format. The director is expecting to hear from each of you during the presentation and may ask questions. Your decision and presentation involves millions of dollars and could possibly impact millions of lives. The Executive Director thanks you in advance for your committed public service. Sincerely, Dave Smith Administrative Assistant National Institutes of Health |
