PROCESS DAY 2

Committee Meeting

Today, the three teams will come together to discuss their findings and develop a consensus funding opinion. 

Step 1- Fill Some Organizational Roles

Your group will need to select a facilitator  whose role is to encourage input from competing views in the group. The facilitator will encourage an orderly group discussion to reach a consensus on your task.

Select a recorder to make notations on the board of items and statements the group agrees upon.

Select a timekeeper to periodically keep alert the group of approaching deadlines.

Step 2- Answer Critical Questions

The three critical  questions your group needs to answer after evaluating all of the evidence are?

• Does the research demonstrate clinical pain reduction benefits from static magnet therapy?
• Are the mechanistic claims of static magnet therapy scientifically probable?
• Is an interaction with human tissue possible with the magnets used in static magnet pain therapy?

Each question is related to the research done by one of the process teams. Your group needs to develop consensus answers to the three critical questions after reviewing research from day 1.

Step 3 - Make a Funding Decision 

 Your group also needs to evaluate the overall meaning of your answers to critical questions develop a consensus recommendation. Remember, your recommendation is either to continue to fund research or to stop funding research. You cannot recommend an incremental reduction or increase in funding.

Your presentation should cover major factors that influenced your decision. You can and should discuss contradicting information that if viewed alone may have led to the opposite decision. The weight your group placed on each factor in making the decision is important..
