EPC' 10:
- 4th Environmental Physics Conference is to be held 10-14 March 2010 in Hurgada, Egypt. EPC is the Egyptian traditional environmental physics conference held regularly on a biennial basis since 2004. With the increasing concern on climate changes and meeting obligations according to the Kyoto Protocol, EPC' 10 is the place of choice to meet and discuss new ideas, plans and achievements in a warm atmosphere while enjoing the wonderful climate of Hurgada on the Red Sea Coast during March.

Proceedings of EPC' 06:
- Now available the electonic version of Proceedings of the 2nd Environmental Physics Conference (EPC' 06) held 18-22 Feb. 2006 in Alecandria, Egypt. The conference was organized by ENPA in cooperation with the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority and the Institute of Graduate Study and Research of the Alexandria University.. The proceedings (254 pages) contains the full text of invited talks and accepted contributions presented at the conference.

Proceedings of NUPPAC' 05:
- Now available the proceedings of the 5th Conference on Nuclear and Particle Physics (NUPPAC' 05) held 19-23 Nov. 2005 at Cairo, Egypt. NUPPAC is the traditional Egyptian Nuclear Physics Conference organized by the Egyptian Nuclear Physics Association (ENPA) to bring together nuclear physicists from many countries to discuss recent developments in this field. The conference was organized in cooperation with the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority. More than 100 scientists from 18 countries attended the conference. The scientific programme of the conference was embedded in quite a rich cultural environment. This feature attributed a special attraction to it, in view that participants had the chance to visit the outstanding  and magnificent archaeological places of Egypt in a very pleasant autumn time weather. Selected material relevant to different historical epochs of Egypt including texts and photographs are scattered throughout the proceedings volume which will give the reader an idea about the atmosphere of the conference, and may be will help participants to recall their memories about this event. The proceedings (545 pages) contains the full text of 9 invited talks along with 49 accepted contributions covering conference topics.

Nobel Prize in Physics 2005:

Training Programmes:
- Prof. MNH Comsan is leading 3 training programmes on interdisciplinary topics in Physics. The programmes are organized within the activities of the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority Training Centre at Nasal City, Cairo. Expected dates for 2009 are:
Measurement and Analysis of Nuclear Spectra To be executed during January
Neutron Sources and Generators To be executed during March
Radiation Medical Physics To be executed during June
The programmes include lectures on basic physics principles related to the topic, laboratory experiments and/or visits to leading institutions in the topic. Lecturers and instructors are outstanding Egyptian professors and specialists.

 Journal of Nuclear and Radiation Physics (JNRP) - Call for papers:
- Launched in 2005 is "Journal of Nuclear and Radiation Physics". JNRP is an international refereed journal devoted to the publication of new and significant research in all fields of nuclear and radiation physics including particle physics, high energy physics, nuclear models and structure, nuclear reactions and spectroscopy, neutron and reactor physics, environmental radiation physics, radiation medical physics, radiation measurement and dosimetry, and other related topics. The journal accepts original, high quality research, review papers, and rapid research communications. Special issues for nuclear and radiation physics conferences are possible. Distribution and readership of JNRP is worldwide, however emphasis is put on manuscripts from new and developing countries. The official language of the journal is English.

SESAME 2nd Meeting of Beamlines and Scientific Committees:
- As a member of SESAME Scientific Committee, Prof. MNH Comsan has attended the 2nd joint meeting of SESAME scientific and beamlines committees. The meeting took place during the period 15-16 April 2004 at the UNESCO building in Paris. Members from Egypt, Greece, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon, Marocco, Pakistan, Palestine, Turkey, and USA attended the meeting. 1st phase beamlines and scientific cases that could be planed were discussed. Emphasis was put on SESAME energy and beamlines specifications. At the same time in the occasion of his 80 birthday, Professor Herwig Schoper -President of the Council of SESAME- has been awarded Einstein Gold Medal for his outstanding contribution to science and humanity. The medal was handed by the UNESCO Director General Professor Matsuura in the presence of the Committees members and UNESCO representatives of countries involved in the project.

Events
World Year of Physics 2005:
- Upon recommendations of the European Physical Society (EPS), the Institute of Physics (IoP), the American Physical Society (APS), and the German Physical Society (DPG); the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) at its General Assembly meeting  in Berlin on 9-11 Oct. 2002 adopted the following resolution:
" Whereas Physics has been the basis of a developing understanding of the physical world and nature as a whole,
Whereas Physics and its applications are the basis of much of today's technology,
Whereas an education in Physics is essential for the nations of the developing world to develop their scientific infrastructure, and
Whereas the year 2005 marks the 100th anniversary of a series of great scientific advances of Albert Einstein.
Therefore, at the suggestion of the European Physical Society, the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics declares that 2005 should be the World Year of Physics and will seek support from appropriate national and international  organizations."
PhysicsEgypt supports the declaration taking in consideration the multinational contribution to great advances in Physics during years 1885-1932 with the year 1905 symbolizing the period.

Inshas Tandem Accelerator went Operational:
- After almost 2 years of trials, the High Voltage Engineering Europa (HVEE) Company succeeded in putting its 3MV Tandetron accelerator at Inshas on the way to be operational. Upon agreement with the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority (the owner), the final tests should include 5 days of continuos operation with different ion acceleration modes. The accelerated ions should be H+, He++, Si3+, and Au++ each at three energy points (min., midway, and max.) of the accelerated mode at the 3 end stations (PIXE, RBS, and neutron). Tests started on Sunday 7 March 2004 at 14:00. During a 24 hours working period, seven of the 18 tests have been demonstrated : He++ beam at 3 MV and 1.5 MV at the three beam lines, and Si+++ beam at 3 MeV at the Test beam line. Other tests are expected to continue after proper normalization.

Egyptian Cyclotron Commissioned:
- According to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) sources, a multi-year technical co-operation project (EGY/0/010) was initiated by the Agency in 1991 to assist the Atomic Energy Authority of Egypt in establishing a cyclotron facility at the Nuclear Research Centre, Inshas.
Utilizing non-convertible currency funds available at that time for technical co-operation projects, a contract was signed in September 1991 with a Russian supplier (the NIIEFA Institute, St. Petersburg) to deliver a 20-MeV MGC-20 machine. The cyclotron was expected to be installed and commissioned at the end of 1995. However, because of changes in the Former Soviet Union and consequently delays in the construction schedule, the acceptance of the premises was effected in January 1998. This was compounded by the problems encountered by the supplier to complete manufacturing of the cyclotron due the drastic devaluation of the rouble since 1992 and subsequent financial difficulties. Following tripartite meetings between the end user, the contractor and the Agency, it was agreed to review the supply contract with regard to the payment terms of the remaining instalments related to delivery and acceptance of the cyclotron, and also to review training, in-factory tests, commissioning of the machine, and acceptance test parameters in order to meet the technical standards required and to ensure the completion of this project.
Several activities were carried out under the project, including provision of expert services to define the final layout of the cyclotron building and to advise on the basic design of associated laboratories and radioisotope production facilities. After nine years of effort, which involved a major contract amendment in 1998, the Russian contractor and the Egyptian counterpart commissioned the cyclotron and completed the acceptance tests in the presence of an IAEA expert and signed the acceptance protocol in October 2000.
Despite the delays due to both the Russian and Egyptian sides, Egypt now possesses an operational cyclotron that can be used for research and applications. The success was achieved through sheer persistence of all parties and persons involved in the project.

ERASC Group:
- Recently established Egyptian Radiation Services and Consultation group (ERASC) is a  group of high calibre radiation experts and specialists, engineers, and supported staff. The field of interest of ERASC is nuclear and radiation technology. It aims to provide expert services and consultation on radiation sources and radioisotopes, neutron sources and generators, charged particle accelerators, radiation therapy machines, industrial irradiation facilities, nuclear and radiation instrumentation, shielding design, radiation protection and safety, environmental impact of nuclear and radiation facilities, and other related disciplines. The ERASC group is willing to support: petroleum industry, steel and pipeline industries, cargo and shipping industries, production industry, medical equipment industry, healthcare complexes, universities and research institutes, as well as other interested enterprises.
