Final Acceptance Tests of MGC-20
Cyclotron:
- FATs of MGC-20 cyclotron delivered last
year to Nuclear Research Centre at Inshas were performed during the period
07-18 Oct. 2000. The accelerator is a k=20 AVF machine built as a technical
cooperation project with the International Atomic Energy Agency. Sixteen
of 18 sets of parameters for different operational regimes were demonstrated
based on expert group recommendations. The 16 sets covered both H- and
alpha particle beams in the energy range 5-20 MeV with external currents:
50 micro Amps for protons and 25- for alphas on the 1st harmonic, and 5
micro Amps for alphas at 6 MeV on the 3rd harmonic. Tests showed reliable
performance of the machine and good regime reproducibility due to the automated
computer control applied for the first time to MGC-20 type cyclotrons.
The final acceptance protocol had been signed at Inshas on Wed. 18 Oct.
2000 at 21:15 Cairo local time by the representatives of: Techsnabexport
and NIIEFA Institute at St. Petersburg, Russia as Manufacturer; Nuclear
Research Centre, Atomic Energy Authority, Egypt as End-User; and the International
Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna as Supplier. First beam routine operation
was demonstrated on Thu. 19 Oct. 2000. The facility is intended for radioisotope
production, basic and applied research.
