A one-day seminar on Education

QUALITY OF EDUCATION: ISSUES & SOLUTIONS

A one day seminar on "Quality of Education: Issues & Solutions" was held on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Allama I.I. Kazi (Senate Hall) Hall, Elsa Kazi Campus (Old Campus), University of Sindh, Hyderabad. It was a joint venture of Faculty of Education, University of Sindh, Hyderabad and Alumni Association, Government College, Hyderabad.

 

The seminar comprised of three sessions. The inauguration and first technical session was began on 9.30 a.m. The theme of the session was Primary and Secondary Education. It was presided over by Prof. Dr. N. A. Baloch, Professor Emeritus, University of Sindh, Jamshoro. Mr. Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh, Jamshoro was the chief guest at the occasion. The invited speaker was Mr. Paul Mc. Dermott, Principal, Sargodhian Spirit Trust Public School, Rashidabad. The inauguration session was started with the recitation from the Holy Quran by Hafiz Muhammad Suleman. It was followed by Naat offered by Ms. Zahida Bangush. Prof. Ghulam Akhar Shah, Faculty of Education and Prof. Muhammad Saleem Mughal, General Secretary Alumni Association served as the anchor persons. Prof. Iqbal A. Panhwar, Dean, Faculty of Education presented a welcome address at this occasion. It was followed by introduction of Alumni of Government College, Hyd by Prof. Muhammad Idris Khan, President Alumni Association. Mr. Mazharaul Haq Siddiqui presented a key-note address on the quality of education in Pakistan particularly in Sindh. Later on in the First technical session Mr. Mc Dermott presented a multimedia presentation on the issue. The first session ended with a vote of thanks by President of Alumni Association.

 

The theme of the second technical session was College Education. In this session, Prof. Muhammad Saleem Mughal and Mr. Abdul Sattar Gopang of Faculty of Education served as anchor persons. It was started with the recitation from the Holy Quran followed by Naat Khawani. The session was presided over by Prof. Syed Sultan Abbas, Chairman, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Hyderabad.The speakers of the session were Prof. Liaquat Aziz Solangi, Sachal Arts and Science College, Hyderabad and Dr. Parveen Munshi, Faculty of Education, University of Sindh, Hyderabad. The sessions ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Abdul Sattar Memon, Faculty of Education.

The theme of the third technical session was Higher Education. Prof. Mughal and Mr. Abdul Sattar Gopang served as the anchor persons. The session started with the recitation from the Holy Quran followed by offering Naat. The session was presided over by Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad Memon, Vice Chancellor, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Science, Jamshoro. The chief guest of the session was Prof. Syed Qavi Ahmed, an eminent educationist. Dr. Asadullah Kazi, Vice Chancellor, Isra Univeristy, Hyd and Prof. Dr. Iqbal A. Panhwar, Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Sindh, Hyderabad were the resource persons at this occasion. The presentations were followed by the addresses of the chief guest and the President. In the end Prof. Mughal offered vote of thanks. The seminar ended at 7.00 p.m.

At night, a dinner reception was arranged at Hyderabad Gymkhana in the honour of the dignitaries of the seminar. After the dinner, the dignitaries enjoyed a Shab-e-Ghazal at Hyderabad Gymkhana.
