The New Deal
During the depression, over 4 million people were without jobs.  In 1932 Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected president of the United States.  FDR gave hope to the people of the United States.  When he took office in 1933, he started to make changes right away.

All of FDR's changes were part of a plan called the New Deal.  Relief was given to the poor.  Jobs were created.  People could finally afford to buy what they needed.  But the depression did not really end until World War II began.
