Indoor Practices!
Please plan to be at practice on Sunday September 28th from 9-11am at the S.Fish Creek Recreation Association. The practice is meant for Phoenix White, Firebirds and Phoenix Red indoor teams and the cost is $5, with the rest of the cost subsidized by the club. We'll refresh our indoor skills and work on some set plays. Another practice will be scheduled and posted soon - please plan to attend both. Indoor starts the Sunday after Thanksgiving so make sure your fees are ready and your calendar is filled in.
Phoenix At The Vancouver Invitational

Phoenix had a blast at VIT again this year, winning 4 out of their six games. Unfortunately it was not enough to put us in the top 3 but we played well and had a lot of fun. We had quite a few injuries this year so hopefully everyone will be recovering quickly (Nat, Jules, Tara!). Will post some new pictures here soon.
Congrats to Michelle
Congrats to Michelle Dias who recently had a lovely little boy - we hope to see her out at the pitch soon!
Casino
The Calgary Ladies Field Hockey Association holds a casino each year to raise funds for things such as equipment, junior programs, team sponsorship in tournaments, facilities like Hawkings Field. Our particpation in these casinos brings a large amount of money to our Association but also benefits us directly. Each participant in the casino also receives money back to the club. This money goes towards things like goalie equipment, recognition items, balls, jersey subsidies, and sometimes player subsidies (eg. if you work the casino, you get your fees discounted). We all benefit from these funds and you are really encouraged to volunteer. It may involve taking some time from work or working late at night but it is really fun and a chance to get to know some of the others in the league. I think the next casino is in July - please talk to your team rep to sign up.
Umpiring
Just a reminder that Phoenix players who take the umpiring class, pass the exam, and pass their certification and continue playing for the club will receive a rebate for the cost of the course for that season.
Your Board Reps
Our reps for 2008 are Patricia Goodson (Red), Amy Nilsson/Kelly Koizumi (White) and Stacey Stewart/Candice Ford (Firebirds). If you have any questions about League activities, please let them know.
Facebook Sites
Club members have recently set up Facebook sites for both Phoenix (Thanks Tara) and Firebirds (Thanks Steph). Check out the sites to see discussions, photos and more. If we can get everyone using them more, it will hopefully cut down on some of our mass e-mails. To access the sites, you need to register with the site but its free to do and then you find us and ask permission from Tara and/or Steph to join.
Social Event
Last season we had a social event where all three teams got together to bowl and have some beers and pizza - a fun time was had by all and it was a great chance for the three teams to reconnect as a club. We may do something similar next time but are open to ideas.
Phoenix Club Players at Golden Oldies
Gina Wozney (Phoenix Red), Heather Krywulak (Firebirds) and April Dias (Phoenix White) made the trip to Rosario, Argentina last September to represent the club at the Golden Oldies Tournament. This tournament is held every two years and rotates to different countries each time. You must be 35 to play in the tournament and Calgary sent two teams this year - The Calgary Cowgirls I and II. The format was interesting - two 20 minute halves and we played primarily against Argentinian teams who were small and very fast. We did our best to experience all that Argentina had to offer with tango exhibitions, lots of Malbec sampling, BBQ, polo, going to a ranch for a picnic, etc.
