Rattery Information Policies
Phoenix Ashes Rattery has specific policies which will be upheld to the fullest extent possible. If these policies cannot be upheld, I believe it is in my best interest to discontinue breeding.
Standards of Care All rats in Phoenix Ashes Rattery ( rescue, companion, and litters) will have clean homes with fresh food and water available to them at all times. All rats, of appropriate age, are allowed free range time and have cages full of mentally stimulating toys. No rat will be left alone, unless necessary, and medical attention will be provided to the animal regardless of cost. I believe that going into debt for several months is better than being an irresponsible breeder. I will stop breeding if for any reason I am unable to uphold these values. Quarantining All rats that come to Phoenix Ashes Rattery are quarantined in a separate building for 2-3 weeks to make sure they are illness free. A new rat that shows illness during quarantine will continue to be quarantined for several months with medical attention. It is recommend that all rat owners practice similar habits to insure the health and safety of their companions, both new and old. New Homes All rats will be given to their new homes in same-sex pairs unless the owner can prove they already have a similar gendered rat for a companion. Rescue rats will not be adopted to people who express interest in breeding them. Other rats who exhibit good standards for breeding will be given to breeders at my discretion. I will not sell rats to people who use rats as feeders. People new to rats will be given information about food, housing, and care for their new companion. Experienced rat owners, if unknown to me, will be asked to fill out a questionnaire about rats. It isn't a final exam, but just something to show me that the owner doesn't need information in their new pet. I maintain the right to say no to anyone interested in adopting a rat from me, without explanation. Feeders Phoenix Ashes Rattery will never sell rats as feeders. If I am putting my heart and soul into my babies I will not shorten their lives for any reason. I understand that snakes also need to eat, but their do not have to eat my kids. Please do not ask about using my babies as feeder rats. I will therefore never sell my rats to wholesalers. Culling Phoenix Ashes Rattery will never cull rat populations to make them more manageable. I will use foster moms, supplemental feedings, or rich diets as alternatives to such a brutal act.
