Temperament: Nitro
is a very sweet, but shy boy who seems to get along better with
humans than he does with other rats, save his brother Kasi.
During free range time he often runs from Jack and Kain in order to
keep from getting into tiffs. He did eventually learn a little
courage and now gets along fine with Jack and Kain.
His Story: Nitro
and his brother Kasi were sweet rats that I fell in love with
instantly when I saw them. Both were well socialized and
enjoyed playing in my lap as young boys. Nitro was the runt of
the litter and small enough that he could fit under doors and
through the bars of the superpet ferret cage that I wanted to put
him in. Because of that, I ended up putting off introductions
into the boy's cage longer than I would have hoped.
Jack and Kain didn't take
to Nitro as well as I would have liked, probably because he was so
shy towards them. It took over a month of supervised
introductions before I felt safe enough to leave Nitro and Kasi with
Jack, Kain, and Oz overnight.
Nitro now gets along with
all the rats in his cage and can be seen cuddling with his brother
or sleeping in the hammock with Kain.
