HealthAura has been in fairly good health since coming to PAR.  She is chronically sneezy, but otherwise shows not illness.  She had lice in August 2003 when she was adopted, and grew her teeth back in September 2003.  She developed a tumor in the summer of 2004.  It was removed October 6th.  In december Aura began to show signs of her age.  She developed a bladder infection, at which time a radiograph was taken and I learned of a congenital spinal deformity.  She recovered and lived a fairly healthy life until she passed away.

Temperament  Aura is very shy; she trusts very few people.  She is terrified of being picked up and held away from people (most likely from her traumatic upbringing).  She loves to investigate her surroundings during free range time, and always puts herself away when she gets tired.  After a year of love she is coming around and doesn't freeze up as often as she used to.  She loves to find warm, enclosed places to sleep.  She is also a girl who knows what she wants.  She learned that if she chewed on the bars of her cage she would be allowed to play.  Aura almost always did it at 10 pm, her playtime.

Her Story Aura was brought to the Humane Society for Companion Animals as a stray that someone found in a pile of wood.  She had four young babies with her.  I took care of her while she nursed her babies and soon I found out that she was missing her top teeth.  She had lost a lot of weight and hair from the whole ordeal.  I started to bring canned cat food to her, along with canned baby food.  I begged the manager to let me take her home because I knew they would euthanize her because she didn't look healthy enough.

My manager allowed me to take her home when she was done nursing.  On August 15th I got the okay and adopted her.  I knew she had lice when I brought her home, so they were treated with ivermectin injections by my vet.

When I went to college with Mara and Kirika in early September Aura had to remain at home with her "grandma" while she finished being treated for lice.  She came to stay with me and the girls at college in late September.  She was accepted by Mara and Kirika almost immediately and they all became fast friends.  Aura enjoyed sleeping with Mara and Ki in the hammock.

Aura slowly has come out of her shell and become a healthy, adventurous girl.  She has learned that people aren't as bad as she first thought, and so she no longer freezes up as soon as someone pets her.

While her health was hit and miss at the end of her life, Aura was always an adventurous girl with a huge appetite.  She scared me several times with breathing fits, but would recover and act as if nothing was wrong.  Several months after the first one she finally decided it was time to go and laid in my arms until her body couldn't handle her strong spirit.  I miss her very much and I will never forget the personality my little Aura-bean had.
