| In 1964, the Eagles' owner was Jerry Wolman, a local millionaire. He hired former Redskins coach Joe Kuharich and signed him to a lifetime contract. After 4 disappointing seasons, the fans chanted "Joe must go" at almost every home game at Franklin Field. -By 1969, Wolman was bankrupt and the team was sold to Leonard Tose whose first act was to fire Kuharich. -Believe it or not, in it's first season Veterans Stadium was seen as a triumph of ultra modern sports engineering. -Many Eagles fans regard the greatest Eagles game at Veterans Stadium to be "The Blue Jersey Bowl" in 1981. Not only did the Eagles beat the Cowboys to advance to the Super Bowl, but the Eagles wore their white jerseys, forcing the Cowboys to wear their blue ones. This is something the Cowboys always try to avoid doing. |
