| See the picters of: the People, Rome, Pompeii, Italy, now! | ||||||
| This Summer I had the extreme pleasure of participating in the Anglo-American Project in Pompeii, an archaeological fieldschool in Pompeii, Italy sponsored by the University of Bradford. The area that I was most involved in, was excavating the "tool room" inside the House of the Vestals. It was called the tool room mostly because the tools are locked up inside the room during the off-season. Jen, my partner for the first two weeks, and I thought the room should be called the "slug room" because we were always being visited by three large slugs which Jen named Nero, Salty, and Emma. The last week of the dig, I was moved to behind the house to dig in the street. There Jason (my dig supervisor), and I found an intact perfume bottle, a very cool find! I took full advantage of my time in Italy, travelling to many different places on my time off. On the first Saturday, I went with my friends Jodi, and Erica to the ancient Greek town of Paestum to see the three temples there. Though the site was larger than I expected, the temple I really wanted to see, the Temple of Neptune, was scafolded for cleaning. On the three day weekend after the third week, I went to Rome with my friends Jody, Krista, and Chris. There we saw the Coloseum, the forums, the Pantheon, and many other places. On the final weekend I finally made it to Capri with Emily, Jennie, and Jennie. Emily and I bought some goggles and had fun looking at the fish swimming around the rocks. We also climbed a mountain to see the Villa Jovis, the ruins of Tiberius' villa. Finally, I went back to Rome for a five night stay. From Sunday til Wednesday morning, I ran around with Jodi and Erica. We visited Tivoli to see the emperor Hadrian's Villa. We also saw the Vatican Museums (a must see on any visit to Rome), St Peters, and the Capuchin Crypts (creepy). On my own I visited the Palatine Hill, the Baths of Caracalla, and of course the Hard Rock Cafe. As impressive as all the sites were, none compared to the people I met at the fieldschool. I met some wonderful people at the fieldschool, and I really miss them a lot (well, most of them anyway). That is why the majority of the pictures on this site right now are of the people I met. In the coming weeks, I will add more pictures of different places, and I will constantly change those pictures, as there is not enough space on this site for the fifteen rolls of film that I used up in my six weeks there.
