| Okie Dokie Neuss December 8, 2002 Well, that was my fourth gig in five days, and this one took place at the Okie Dokie in Neuss. That is a nice tavern, just like an English pub, with pool billiard and dart in the back. The very small concert venue is located in another room, only separated from the main pub by a black curtain. Sitting at the bar, I enjoyed a delicious Pizza, and listened to the sound check that emanated through the curtain. While waiting for the show to start about half an hour later than scheduled, I chatted with a nice guy who was sitting next to me. Finally, they took away the curtain to enter this small venue. The band appeared on stage, and stormed through a set of fascinating songs. They performed a superb show for us as always, with real dynamic, which Peer and his band members Lars and BP can provide you so well. Everybody could see how much fun they had on stage. They sent us good vibes right when they opened their set with Freddies Shuffle, and continued with To Be Your Man. You could see that the crowd was already in a very good mood, and the band took it right into Livin' The Life Aint Easy. The songs I Can Tell and I Aint Beggin' followed straight up. Peer certainly proved his heart and soul by putting everything into his songs. The band recently did a long tour with Walter Trout, and therefore we got a nice little tribute to him. Then, they drove into an outright blow-away version of the blues number Tell Me, which, in the end, blended right into the song Trouble. All sounded so incredible, got the crowd pretty excited, and there was much applause during and after the songs. The band felt very happy about the wonderful audience. The night went on with the lovely ballad Sams Caf, and the rock number Please Please Babe. After playing Homegrown Juice, BP took the spotlight, and did an absolutely phenomenal drum solo, which the audience loved immensely. After a little break, the band returned on stage, and did a stunning and long version of Little Wing, as a tribute to the famous artist Jimi Hendrix. It was just such an amazing performance, running the full gamut of music colours and emotions. The audience also showed their excitement during the song. Sounds of the little number with Norwegian folk tones filled then the venue, followed by the terrific Oh Well that led brilliantly over into Fairytale and back into Oh Well, and got everyone's attention. It is always so magical and unforgettable to hear that songs. To our all amusement Peer burnt his guitar, as he always does on their gigs. With playing the nice instrumental number Hallingcaster the band closed their set. Wishing us a good night, the guys left the stage. We all called long and loudly for more, and that made them come back. We were asked to raise our hands to clap along to Suzy Q, and we all had a good time listening to that great song. Again, the group went off stage, and as we wanted to hear more, we applauded and shouted a lot, but sadly, the guys didnt show up again. We experienced an excellent and emotional show by a band that generously delivered all they had to give, their talents, their hearts and their souls. Lou |
